Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas targeted the media during a Q & A on Friday, joking that there is a potential he could leave the court one day — on one condition.

During a conference in Dallas, Thomas blasted the opinion draft leak recently published by Politico, which suggested Roe v. Wade could potentially be overturned this year, leading to numerous protests of conservative judges attached to the opinion. Thomas said the leak fundamentally changed the court and the public’s perception of Supreme Court Justices.

At another point during his chat, the conservative judge said he’d leave the court as soon as he starts doing his job “as poorly” as the media does theirs.

“One of the things I say in response to the media … especially early on, about the way I did my job, I said, ‘I will absolutely leave the court when I do my job as poorly as you do yours — and that was meant as a compliment, really,” Thomas said.

If he wants to offer a critique of the media and offer sound bites as a politician then don’t be surprised when the general public perceives you as a politician instead of an impartial judge.

If the press thinks that's bad, they better pray he doesn't get to write the majority opinion on the next 2A case.

I'd love to see it though...

Excited to hear about his impending retirement after he didn't recuse on a case involving his wife's planning of a coup.

50% of the general public absolutely love him. 50% will attack him and his wife over leaked emails that were intended to be private.

He should not care what you and the rest of your 50% think.

That ship has sailed, son. The “leak” just cemented the fact that the court is now just another political tool. Sad

I agree with you. And I don’t think it’s good for us going forward.

I think it might have started a while before this past month.

Maybe even before they used Anita Hill to try to derail his confirmation.

How is critiquing the media being a politician??? Lol

You’ve completely outed yourself as viewing the media as an arm of the Democratic Party, and thus you believe a critique of the media is a partisan statement. Incredible.

He’s the anti-Roberts as far a giving a shite about the public perception of the Court. RBG was also making some inappropriate public comments her last few years on the bench.
