You think Russia, India, China, Brazil etc are comfortable with a system where the US and the EU want to impose their current ideals on the rest of the world?

Who cares about comfort? I know from personal experience that India and China aren't comfortable with certain Western ideals, but those same ideals (as in the Western conception of human rights) are highly praised in the literature of those countries, especially post-war literature and film.

They are more concerned with security.

States are yes. Individuals are more concerned with economics and standards of living.

That is why they are largely content with strongmen running their countries.

India hasn't been run by a strongman yet. And I'm extremely skeptical of this claim, given my own travels through several countries.

We need to recognize this and understand that imposing our “morals” on the rest of the world is not necessarily going to be received well.

Man, there's a whole class of literature about this very topic. Colonialism existed. We know all this. That still doesn't change very much on the ground.

Because Russia doesn’t want them to join?

Because I have no interest in ever sending Americans to die over Finland.

Did you want Ukraine in NATO too? Who else do you want in?

Because Russia extraterritorial adventures since 2007 have been based on Russian fears of some event playing out, not that event actually playing out. The key metric always has been what Russia has been afraid of, not what its actual threats are, which are primarily social, but manifest themselves in the military as well. Those fears are stoked internally by how the Russian elite views the world, and those views predate NATO by a long time. In other words, Russia has long competed with other imperial powers for control to the Eastern European Plain, and that will always factor into its decision-making, even as other former powers in the region have integrated in various ways, which heightens Russian fears rather than showing them their view is somewhat outdated.

Right, so don’t you think allowing nato to continue to expand all the way to the Russian border would very clearly fan the flames of that paranoia?

Everyone is arguing over if Finland and Ukraine should be allowed to join NATO. Of course the should be allowed to join NATO. But that doesn’t mean that we should let them simply because of how Russia would view those moves. I think it’s a good thing for everyone to have some non-NATO countries on the border of Russia.

Ukraine needs to be independent of the United States and Russia. Get the swamp out of Ukraine and that would help. Stop flirting with NATO and remain neutral and thus maybe the Russians will withdraw the troops. But no the swamp has too much dirty laundry invested in Ukraine and will continue to piss off a nuclear power. This bullshite needs to stop asap.

Russia is not losing. Ukraine is losing badly. You'll see when Poland decides to annex Lyiv and parts of western Ukraine. It will be partitioned.

Finland historically was part of the Russian Empire, the Duchy of Finland.

Not exactly true, it has far more in common with Sweden than Russia, it is a Lutheran/Catholic country (not Orthodox) and when it was "part of" Russia that was a time when who was part of whom was very fluid. It was much less a part of Russia than, say, Guam is currently part of the USA.
