Wife has to go to New Orleans for a work thing in June so I’m tagging along. We’ve booked an AirBnB in Uptown a few blocks from St Charles that includes off street parking. Are the street cars still pretty reliable? Her meetings are in the CBD a block or two north of St Charles. So thinking just ride with her to her meetings, then I’ll goof off in that area, maybe hit the WW2 museum and lunch at Cochon. Or would it be better to Uber or drive ourselves? We will be there on a Friday night, and her work thing is most of the day Saturday. Owner of house said we could leave our car there all day Saturday, so I feel better doing that than leaving it in a public parking lot with luggage in it. Any place in that area I should go for lunch other than Cochon? I haven’t been to New Orleans in about 15 years.

They run pretty much on schedule, but depending on the amount of stops can take a while so make sure to budget some time for that. An Uber is probably easier but for $5 round trip for both of you total, street car is better value and more fun.

Sitting at the bar at Peche, Auction House Market, Gianna, Carmo, and if you want to brave walking down Magazine a little and passing under the interstate Blue Giant are some other places. Cochon or Butcher is a can't miss lunch spot though.

She may not want to go to meetings sweating her arse off like you would on a streetcar.

Good point I didn’t consider. Forgot they weren’t air conditioned. We will probably Uber then.

It had been a minute since I been, but didn't know that. The whole food court trend seems to have really dried up.

I assume I’ll be fine at any of these in shorts and a polo. I e eaten at Cochon Butcher and remember it being casual. Heard lots of good thing about Peche, so May end up there.

For sure, especially during the day.

Streetcar ride in the morning is fine with the windows open. I used to take it to work and I'm a sweater, but morning before 9 were fine. Its the ride back in the afternoon where it can get a little toasty.

Cochon Butcher is a must do for lunch. Along the streetcar line in addition to other spots recommended earlier I would add Herbsaint, Sofia and the rooftop bars at Ace and Virgin for happy hour/people watching.

Unfortunately we have a commitment Sunday morning so we are leaving town as soon as she gets done with her meetings/training/whateverthehell she’s there for. So not sure about afternoon/happy hour drinks since I’ll probably be the one driving.

I say that but will pound several drinks that afternoon then get yelled at for making her drive home.

This.

And depending on how close you are, drinks in the evening at Hot Tin would be great.
Add Barrel Proof to the area drinking list as well.

Be very careful in New Orleans. Always be aware of your surroundings. There has been a major uptick in car jackings, busted car windows, robberies, purse snatchings, stabbings and murders in both broad daylight and night hours. There is a severe shortage of police officers. They're tired of New Orleans politics.
Enjoy your visit.

Streetcars are fine but slow. Give yourself enough time and you'll be ok. If it gets tight just uber.

If you're into art I went to M.S. Rau on Royal today. They used to do curiosities but now they display pretty much all of their fine art. An impressive collection of Rembrandt, Monet, Warhol, Pissaro, etc

In that area for lunch Luke Restaurant is great. For dinner in same area Desi Vegas is probably the best steakhouse in NOLA. My wife and I like the CBD area. It feels a lot safer there.

Turkey and the Wolf might be the best lunch spot in town.

Uptown where? That could potentially be a long arse street car ride.

I’d just Uber.

We actually canceled that one and now have a place near the St Charles/Washington intersection. Not sure what neighborhood that is considered? Garden District?
