Grade the Saints Off-season So Far

Let’s assume we get 1 of Jarvis or Mathieu. If that happens, what would you grade our offseason? (Obviously I know the draft isn’t over, but I doubt a 5th round pick is going to chance your feelings on this)
I’d say a B+, considering we lost some key starters. I love our draft, but I think we could use another weapon on offense, especially if Kamara misses any time.

I really didn’t mind our offseason until we reached 4 rounds too early on a safety from one of the bottom 3 defenses in the SEC.
B-
Hopefully we can get one of Landry or Tryann as you suggested. I also think we need a running back.
I do think we are going to compete for a playoff spot again this year and hopefully we will be healthier so we can grab one.

The worst part is, the saints say they see him as a corner, not even a safety. So we reached on a 4th round prospect in the 2nd who was not BPA and not a positional need.. Just incomprehensible, man

Yeah honestly we should’ve sent our 2nd in the Olvae deal and kept the 3rd and 4th rd pick if we were going to draft a 5th rd talent in the 2nd round.
Again. Dude is a project. From a shitty defense. And he’s 24 years old.
Maybe he will be good, but the pick didn’t make a ton of sense on a lot of levels especially considering the level of can’t miss talent that was still on the board.
This dude’s best on field production in college came when he was a special teams gunner. That’s not what you should be going for at pick 49.
You can usually pick up Justin Hardee and Chris Banjo types as UDFA’s.

It’s hard to give a grade until it’s over. I loved the draft picks. We still have a fair bit of cap space though so I’m not sure what the plan is there. If we are completely done then probably a B. Mainly because we lost some key contributors. If we were to sign honey badger that would probably move it up to an A for me because we would have filled the positions we lost completely.

I don't have a problem with the picks.
Giving up picks to trade up is always risky. The failure rate on draftees is always a factor, whether from injuries, bad scouting or bad fit. So giving up two picks for one doubles your chance of failure.

I will go C- too.
It's not that we didn't do things.
It just seems like most of what we did, did not work as well as we would have hoped for.
I am just a fan. I always hope I am wrong when it comes to bad thoughts.

This team hasn’t played a down……. Not sure we can say things didn’t work?
Maye if healthy can be comparable to Williams. Need to get Honey Badger though. And probably sign Jarvis Landry as well. Find a RB as well.
Overall if the team is healthy, gonna be in the playoffs.

A-
Reasons
1. Kept Winston on a great contract. This will help clean up our cap situation going forward
2. Drafted in my opinion the best WR to fix a huge hole opposite Thomas
3. Kept Thomas and he seems bought in
4. Immediately replaced Armstead with top talent instead of overpaying to keep him for 10 games a season
5. After Williams left, signed a comparable player at a lot cheaper
6. Resisted overpaying in the wild free agent market
Team will be better next year.
I think 11-6 is very realistic. Could have gotten there last year with Winston staying healthy. Now add Olave and Thomas to the offense and we are set.

No such thing as can't miss talent or players. That term is thrown around often but no one knows if a player will work out or not. Only time will tell. I don't like the pick but I know the front office is more experienced than I am in making these selections.

B-
Highlights
Got Winston back on a good, cheap deal
Re-motivated Thomas
Great first round
Lowlights
Paid an awful safety too much money
Bad second round pick
Watson drama

Well I doubt we get Jarvis and pay him $15 mil a year now that we traded up for Olave who will be making considerably less. Maybe Mathieu is still in the cards but I doubt it. They obviously see something in this kid from Tennessee and I’ll bet just about anything even though he played corner in college that they see him as a safety in the NFL. People forget we signed Justin Evans too who has been a really good safety when he’s been healthy. Not to mention PJ is a much better safety than he was a corner I think we are set at DB right now. They might be wise to just hold on to the cap space they have since they need to give McCoy and CGJ new contracts.

Excellent POST!!
I say B- for the above reasons..... Would jump to A if we can sign Landry or Mathieu (or similar).

How much does losing CSP hurt us?

DA said last night that they see him as a corner.

Oh yes, gotta love draft season where fans become front office experts. How do you know that Taylor had a 5th or 6th round grade? Was it from the mock draft “experts” that said Malik Willis was a top 20 pick? Literally all but 1 starter in our defensive backfield are draft picks and most are mid round picks. You really think they had a late round grade on Taylor and just said frick it lets get him in the 2nd round? It’s really funny how some random arse hat makes a mock draft, that mock draft is completely wrong, then posters use that incorrect mock draft to criticize an organization that’s been nailing the draft for the past 5 years.

If we could have had one move back from this off-season it would be Williams. I would have matched the $14 million theRavens paid him but I think he wanted to leave for somewhere else regardless so it probably wouldn’t have done much good. He has his tackling issues but there might not be a better true free safety in the game playing centerfield. That being said I think the guys they brought in have the potential to not have a big drop off in play.
