If you didn't price steel before turning in your bid, you're in a bind

I meant y'all bid. Are you getting reimbursed for material on a cost + basis or is it included in your bid price?

It will be marked up and included in the bid. Therein lies the danger. We will most definitely put in a materials escalation clause.

Of course we haven't bid yet. We just got the project to bid on Monday and have requests in to several supply houses in California for pricing.

Is this the first project you've bid in the past year and a half?

As a sub, we're holding pricing for 10 days. If you're on the estimating side of this, count your blessings. Trying to hold factories to a price months after a contract or LOI is sent, is damn near impossible.

Your going to need isolation Hangers. It's a tensioned spring according to the weight it's holding.
Stut is up 30% from the beginning of November and ATR is up about 12% . That is locally idk know the California market

First one of this type. These earthquake builds come at us once a year or so as the end user expands their space in the data center. It's niche work for us. Our other work is more mainstream data center (fiber and environment builds) and electronic security and video surveillance. We've done three of these previously and the end customer loves our work so we do these one offs for them.

Yep, and we'll need special brackets for the earthquake zone. Much more expensive than a regular beam bracket or clamp.

If it's the center load beam clamp they will run about 35.00 for import
The domestic anvil is 140.00

Just re-priced a Pre-Engineered Metal Building that I had originally priced in December of 2021. The price increased by 15%. No design changes, straight up same building priced.

This is just the metal building itself, no labor or anything. Not sure if that helps you, its just an example of increase in steel prices.

I work for a steel supply company and our prices are up 90% more than usual right now. Been that way for 1.5+ years now (the price being high, not it being 90%). It's ridiculous how crazy it's been dealing with this at work, as well as buying anything else in this country. It's expensive.

Thanks Inflation Joe.

Being told Nickel is going to jump 40% first of month. Anything stainless will jump around 10% based on that.

How bad have steel prices gone up?

Not as bad as other materials but it has gone up. Biggest issue is lead times especially for bar joists because Amazon has been ordering absurd amounts for their various centers. We're on the consulting side but we have increased our allowance 25% per ton since shite hit the fan.

Suppliers are offering price for a very short amount of time. In out case, depending on where our client requests country of origin from, material is on 6-8 month delays. You should see the price per foot of titanium pipe and high nickel alloys right now. It's wild, but POs are still being written and projects kicking off.

I'm a concrete guy, so my experience is mainly rebar. Prices have gone up 50% since this time last year.

Plus suppliers are only holding the price for 10 days as opposed to the 30 day hold they used to have.

In all seriousness, add 30% to the overall price and you should be relatively close.

Construction CEO’s have a new priority

Unfortunately, they didn’t learn from the FL sky bridge mishap that was formed by affirmative action
