ISR classes for toddlers?

Has anyone done ISR lessons for their young toddlers (18 months or younger)? Care to share your impressions and results? It seems very sink or swim (pun intended) and not sure if that is the right approach for my angsty drama queen toddler

I = Infant. You waited too long.

We didn't do the isr, but we started ours in lessons at like 2 years old.
I love reading the comments on ISR posts where the instructor just chucks a 15mo old in the pool
Good for you if you do it though. It may never come in handy, but it might save your kids life.

I have a 15 m/o and we're just doing regular swim stuff w/ him

We did it for our daughter and she just wrapped up. Overall, I think it was worth it. Got her familiar with and more comfortable in the water: learned to hold breathe underwater, pull herself up on side of pool, etc.
Obviously its not a magic bullet but I think it's worth the money.

Do it, the earlier the better. Kids will be fine with an experienced sadist, I mean instructor.

All 3 of mine did it at that age and it is definitely worth it if you have a pool or intend on being around a pool fairly often.

We are obviously past infant age, but was asking a mom about it this weekend at tee-ball because I need to get B in some type of swim lesson but afraid the hardcore lessons like this will terrify him of water. Every mom I've talked to has said that their kids did very well with it.
I'm looking into private lessons for it, because I'm nervous a big group will freak him out and then he won't focus.

She's 14.5 months and we are going into peak pool season in CO. We have done the mommy and me classes, but other than the social aspect of it, I have seen little improvement. Hoping ISR would help her become more comfortable near water.

Loved mommy and me initially but she tends to start looking around and focusing on other kids and not the activity so we are doing private

Do like my parents, just chunk her in the water, watch her flop around until she starts to tread water, then pull her out.
Old people had it rough.

I don't endorse any parenting methods my parents used on me.
(Except working. I had to have a part time job when I was 12 years old. I kid you not.)

I schlepped papers at 13 so I probably will make her have a little part-time gig too - especially with this damn inflation

Well congrats on your new baby and good on you for teaching her to swim at a young age. Nothing as scary as kids that don't know how to swim. My first memories are me and my brothers and sisters swimming at our neighborhood pool. It became 2nd nature and I've never feared water in the least.

Our son did this when he was 1 and he was terrified of the pool the rest of the summer. The lessons were basically him crying for the 20-30 minutes he was there.

I remember taking my oldest to his swim lessons and watching the kid before him. Every time that kid's head came out of the water he was crying and screaming "Mommy! Mommy!" My son looked at me like "what the frick have you gotten me involved in?"

we started very early. 4 months? we do the lessons with him. it’s more about pool/water acclimation so they don’t turn out terrified like some of these comments. Ours loves it, has really progressed to being fine in the pool, learning to swim, knowing to go towards the pool edge, and being fine going underwater.
would definitely recommend if you’ve got a pool or do a lot of water activities. infant drowning is at the top of the reasons for infant death.

Tadpole is the best around. My daughter went from drowning to swimming across the pool in a week at 4.
