For two grand? Maybe if you stay an hour away and eat ramen every night.

Last trip to Key West ran about $5k, Jackson Hole about $7500. That's just between 2 people. That was last year though. I would add 2k to each trip now to account for inflation.

What are y'all doing on these trips?!?

I'm going to Seaside for about 5 days in July and only spending about 1800 for 4 of us.

Total?

Where did you find a place in Seaside for $250/night? (Assuming plus taxes and fees for the room and then food, travel, and necessities/fun during the trip?)

I hid some very important info I wanted to be edgy

Splitting a large house with 3 families.

But our kids are only around 6. They don't require much. Seaside is also not very attraction heavy.

TBF though we also don't spend a ton going to the beach anywhere. We don't spend a ton on housing as we don't care what it looks like most of the time as we are always out. In Destin we stay at the MWR (Anybody with military family members needs to do this). We hardly go over 1800 on a full week there also by ourselves.

how? are you talking just the condo? if so thats reasonable for 4 nights, although on the cheaper side

are you including gas? food both on the way there and back? what are you eating while there?

i specifically said in my post on the last page i plan to do the following this year

snapper trip for me and 2 older boys
parasailing for me and 2 older boys
go karts prolly 1 or 2 nights
putt putt 1 night
banana boat 1 time

normally the guys go play golf too.

we will spend another 300 minimum on food plus go out to dinner 3 times. But we usually grill steaks for dinner many times and i will usualyl buy a nice 75-100 bottle of whisky to sip on.

i can do cheaper trips eating sandwiches and shite but i would rather not even go if its gonna be like that unless its with a bunch of friends and thats all they can afford to do.

I dont go on vacation to be cheap though. I will say when my kids were younger than 5 it was significantly cheaper cause nobody wants to go to dinner with kids that young plus all the naps keeps you at the condo

honestly alot of them are financing that shite

I hope this isn't true. It would take a very stupid person to finance a vacation

ETA: I really don't count day to day spending (especially on things like food) as part of my vacation budget. I'm going to be spending money if I'm home or if I'm on vacation, so I don't think that's fair, unless you are booking an expensive excursion that you wouldn't otherwise spend money on at home (ie chartered fishing trip or something like that).

for a family of 5, about $5-6k if you go on a budget. If you aren't tight with money, $8-10k easy.

ummmmm have you seen some of the gulf shores crowd? i love it there but absolutely people are financing vacations

and its only stupid if you are putting on a credit card. theoritcally if you can get a very low interest loan like what was available last year at this time, it was a smart move if you were doign it because your cash could make a high %.

i realize very few are doing that, but its still the better move on paper. but yea plenty of people with a household income of 75k are going to the beach yearly and dropping 4-5k.

This is probably a big reason the person you replied to spends so much more. They don't have kids.

Kids once older can make a vacation expensive, but like you said, little ones keep you from being able to go out and spend a ton on high end dinners and endless alcohol.

Food/alcohol is our highest expense on vacation.

But for real, if y'all have small kids and go to Destin, use the MWR. It's right on the bay, has a fully fenced-in splash pad and pool, access to a marina, and you have access to the private military beach. The rooms are clean and do what you need to them to do and are about 100 a night.

Gotta be in the military or go with someone in the military.

No doubt, we can't fully go full vacation mode while they are so young. It's more of babysitting in a different city for us right now

Luckily I haven't seen them in a while, it's been probably 5+ years since I've been to Gulf Shores

Adding this to the bottom of this post as it might have gotten lost on my other one:

That's true.

I guess it depends if you're restaurant people in your regular life or not. Technically, what we spend eating on vacation isn't that much different than a busy weekend out at home.

But some people rarely dine out at home, so if they're doing it for every meal on vacation, that's a pretty big difference.
