bro...you left out a few details
when our kids were young we used to split the condo with friends that had the same. now we get our own each family. makes it way way more expensive, plus the little shits like to eat adn go do things now.
newsflash...kids are expensive as hell

Technically, what we spend eating on vacation isn't that much different than a busy weekend out at home.
That's how it is for us, too.
I typically only include flights/lodging, a rental car if needed, and only really big excursions when I'm referring to a vacation budget.

Why did you turn into a recluse? If they old enough to be expensive, they old enough to get themselves a job to pay for themselves is what I say.

What is everyone’s opinion on whether it’s worth it, for the experience, especially for kids, to put a vacation on the credit card?

This is probably a big reason the person you replied to spends so much more. They don't have kids.
Incorrect. I have an 8 year old and a 3 year old.
I looked for two months for a decent gulf coast place. Nothing was showing up for less than $300/night. Anything close to the beach was pushing $350/night at the cheapest. Only places I found that were sub-300 were studios with less-than-stellar reviews.
The reason his bill is so low for a 5 day stay is because he’s splitting the house with other families. That’s really the most economical way to do it.

I put literally everything on a credit card. I pay it off twice a month. Easy way to get rewards.

Yep and it's a great way to stay close to family and friends.

and no recluse but usually im working on a different budget than the friends that like to split things and i like space, i dont like being on top of one anotehr.
we usually hang out at one condo until late but atleast when i want piece and quite from their kids i can do that.
so to answer your question...i turned into a recluse when i got 35+

That’s not really putting on a card, though. I mean going on a vacation you can’t actually afford and just not giving a f about all the interest you’ll end up paying.
I don’t do that, but I could see people doing it. “You only live once”, etc etc.

For a week for a family of 3 I would say around $5000. This is a vacation in the United States.
Outside I would say $10,000.
Outside I would say $10,000.

A few thousand. Beach condos are expensive and going to disney is expensive. Everything is expensive right now.

Can add another $1200-1500 if you need a rental car for the week.
We found it more cost effective to use private drivers. Nothing like seeing the Spanish countryside from a 500 series sedan.

If you are talking about financing something you can not presently afford then that is a complete idiot move and a recipe for bankruptcy.
I think it is pretty stupid that parents drop a ridiculous amount of money on Disney or other "experience" trips when the kids are literally going to have few, if any, memories of these experiences. I have no memories of the trips I took as a little kid and only vague memories of trips I took between the ages of 8-12. Kids forget stuff like a week or two later.
If you're rich, do whatever you want. If you're poor just find inexpensive or free ways for your kids to play and entertain themselves at home. And if you're middle class then budget, plan and save for cheaper trips like cruises or camping.
The keeping up with the Jonses and Instagram obsessed narcissism is driving a lot of people into bad financial spots. "Hey dad, I'm ready to own my first car and go off to college...can you help out?"... "uhhh, sorry son, remember when we stayed on site at Disneyworld with the Minnie Mouse deluxe meal plan or when we went to Orange Beach so your mother could brag about how close we were to the ocean."

Sounds like you are definitely a tightwad. 3k at Disney must mean you are staying at Motel 6 and eating PBnJ. frick that shite.

Not all getaways cost that much but 2 per year of them do. Ski trips for a family of four are at least 12k. Montana for two weeks this summer is going to be 20k by the time I get a few fly fishing guides, rafting trips, the VRBO’s, Jeep rental, etc. Just adds up.

Maybe you're just poor, comparatively speaking.

You were right about “maybe I’m a tightwad”
