Why do men become so non-social as they age?

As a child and probably through your 20s most men have good friends and acquaintances. But by age 40 those numbers have dwindled and in some cases are non-existent (of course there are exceptions to every rule). This is probably why women live longer as they continue to cultivate relationships.
Let's face it when your days are numbered the only real important thing in life will have been the people in it. Not sure why men grow to enjoy solitude. Or do they?

Covid shrunk their package and it affected their self confidence?

I confess. I’m about to turn 53 and I get more cranky as the years go by.

We definitely do enjoy solitude, I think you meant, as we age.
We get tired of dealing with people's shite b/c it never changes. Easier to avoid people's shite by enjoying your peace away from them.

Dudes hanging out together looks kind of gay when you get to a certain age. Most dudes will just hang out with their wife's friend's husband when they're all together. No homo.

I'd say that you have more and more responsibilities to take care of as the years go by. It is also harder to bond and make new friends after the formative years.

As I get older and older (well into middle age now) I discover people are assholes and I have no desire to associate with them.
Then again, it could be that I'm the one that has become an a-hole and nobody wants to associate with me anymore.
Either way, I'm happy in my solitude. Now excuse me while I kick the cat and yell at the damned neighbor kids to get off my lawn!

Because the older you get the less bullshite you are willing to tolerate and my time is valuable.

This, and I actually prefer to be alone. I like to see my children and grandchildren, but after a couple of hours, I want away from that, too.

Well, I just turned 50 and so far this year, I've had 2 guy weekends with my high school bros & one canoe/camping weekend with about 8 guys and our kids. So, I'd be running counter to your thesis.
I'll report back in 10 more years.

I'm not sure this is really true, but I do think men are more likely to want 5 great lifelong friends than 100 mediocre friends like some women seem to prefer.
It's amazing to me how many people in my generation crave what our parents seemed to develop so much more easily - a handful of very good family friends. People in your neighborhood who you'd trust your kids with, go on vacation with, etc. I'd go so far as to say people are desperate for it. People crave genuine community and it's in short supply.

Mid 50s now, but I've never particularly liked people, lways avoiding the majority at all costs as a general rule.
Now dogs on the other hand are much more agreeable than most people.

It’s easier to get some goddamn peace and quiet without lane friends pestering you to do shut with them.

I'm 44 and probably fit this description. Most of my lifelong friends don't live around here anymore. I mostly just hang out with my family.

The older I get the more I realize how legitimately stupid people are.

Because you realize just how much of a front many people put on. And you don't have time for all the bullshite.
