I’m convinced Griff sat on a horseshoe over the summer

Has anybody been as lucky as him since his totally botched free agency. Was shot down by CP3, Lowery, Hardaway, probably Dinwiddle too.
All those contracts will be albatrosses, some already are. So avoided that disaster but not by his own doing.
Got desperate and overpaid for Graham by including a possible first in it but is in a no lose situation because if we lose what will be a pretty decent first, we get to see playoff basketball. So it will be all but forgotten. The pick will end up being about the same value as what we got CJ for which is (crazy). Meaning a couple spots will separate whoever ends up with it out of the Blazers or Hornets.
And as I just mentioned, got CJ in a really depressed market, who was only made available because of the Lillard injury. Blazers are likely buyers at the deadline trying to keep him happy instead of selling off everything not nailed down if that injury never happens.
And now to the Lakers pick. The team all the experts and Vegas pegged as the favorites. The asinine Westbrook trade coupled with the AD injury, helped put them in a free fall after the ASB. No one thought we had a shot in hell of keeping that pick, especially with the west being so weak this year. No one thought they’d miss the playoffs all together.
And I won’t even mention the Herb pick. How often does a 2nd round pick come in and start day 1…..
There’s no doubt in my mind that one of our picks will end up winning the lottery now.
And the cherry on top is that at least by us getting into some playoff type game, it shows Zion that we got there without him and gives Griff more credibility to him and his step dad.
If I was Griff, I’d be buying lottery tickets every day.

He hit the lotto with this draft class and CJ trade no question. As far as I’m concerned the things he’s done this year have made up for the boneheaded things he’s done and he’s about to have another lottery pick to add to the team. I can also see him packaging Graham with the lakers pick if he sees a player he thinks would fit well and that we can afford. This team is going to be a problem next year.

He was part of pulling 3 #1 picks from the lottery in Cleveland and then got the #1 his first year here. That horseshoe has been up his arse for a while.
I'm waiting for this year's lottery before doing a regrade, but the results speak for themselves. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. As much shade as I've given Griff, he's righted the ship to the point that I'm ready to keep riding with Lady Luck.

Hopefully the horseshoe continues and we end up with a top 5 pick!

If there’s one thing I really like about Griffin, it’s his persistence to stay aggressive and find ways to improve the team. A lot of GMs would have sat on Adams and Bledsoe after the debacle. Griffin knew what he needed to do and moved them immediately.
Even with Graham here, it didn’t stop him from going after CJ. He’s going to make some poor decisions even with good intentions but it’s what he does after those mistakes were realized that keeps me optimistic.

If we actually make the playoffs, then he honestly deserves to get strong consideration for Executive of the Year. Of course, he won't, just like Willie won't get consideration for Coach of the Year, because we didn't win enough games for those awards. I just think that if, before the season started, you asked any single person in the league whether the Pelicans could make the playoffs without Zion, they'd have looked at you like you were from Mars.

My only worry about when Zion comes back is how much effort is he going to give on defense? This team has gone 34-32 since that disastrous start by believing in Willie Green’s culture change and being as active on defense as you are on offense. Getting Herb who may very well be a top 5 defender in the league as a rookie didn’t hurt either and he’s the perfect guy to play with Zion because he doesn’t need the ball.

He will give at least as much effort as we get from Jaxson, so that would be a wash.

Yep, Herb is the perfect forward next to Zion. Will take the toughest defensive assignment, doesn’t need to ball on offense, can knock down an open shot.

He's back to even for me. He can fully win me over with another good off season

Are we sure about this?

He won’t, Memphis’ coach will win it and he should. They have gone like 15-2 without Ja and are primed to be a force for the the forceable future.

Taylor Jenkins should get it, but it seems the overwhelming frontrunner is Monty since he was snubbed last year for Thibs. Vegas has the odds at like -2000 for Monty right now.

I agree that he has been very fortunate and I loathe the guy as a person. He has this arrogance about him that I just can't stand.
But I also have to admit that he made some smart moves prior to this season that put us in a great position to capitalize on his luck.

Let’s see if he has one more horseshoe up there. We hit in this lottery and we could forge something enduring.
