I’ve been working on building some LSU spreadsheets with historical, consolidated information regarding baseball in order to distract myself from our current defensive woes. Anyway, I decided to go back to my freshman year at LSU (1990).

The info is relatively easy to compile through 1997 and then there is some based on memory (which could be faulty) and others based on roster lists. Hard to find box scores before 1997. Also, for some years, there was a rotation, so I just put who was there at the big games at the end of the season.

Here is what I have so far for 1st Base:

1990 Johnny Telechea
1991* Johnny Telechea
1992 Will Hunt
1993* Kenny Jackson
1994 Jeramie Moore
1995 Eddy Furniss
1996* Eddy Furniss
1997* Eddy Furniss
1998 Eddy Furniss
1999 Jeff Leaumont
2000* Brad Hawpe
2001 Bryan Moore
2002 Blake Gill
2003 Clay Harris
2004 Will Harris
2005 Blake Gill
2006 Jorden Mayer
2007 Sean Ochinko
2008 Matt Clark
2009* Sean Ochinko
2010 Blake Dean
2011 Mason Katz
2012 Tyler Moore
2013 Mason Katz
2014 Tyler Moore
2015 Chris Chinea
2016 Greg Deichmann
2017 Nick Coomes/Jake Slaughter
2018 Austin Bain
2019 Cade Beloso
2020 Cade Beloso
2021 Tre Morgan
2022 Tre Morgan

* denotes a championship year

Please let me know if you think that I have something wrong. Years 90-96 are hard to piece together.

Baseball Reference may help some with this: LINK That's a link to the 2018 season, but you can navigate to other seasons from there. They show the number of games played at each position.

From 2009 until pretty much Beloso, we treated 1B as a second DH spot. Some of them were better fielders than others, but it was almost none of their primary position.

ETA: In 2017, Slaughter played 51 games at 1B to Coomes 33. Slaughter was a pretty decent fielding 1B, Coomes less so.

Thanks Project. Definitely gonna check that link out. I debated about putting Slaughter but Coomes ended up being the guy at the end. Maybe I’ll add a /

The Good Old Days

And don’t get me wrong, I love Doughty as a player, I just think he’s best suited for 3B.

I agree, but SS really pops for me. Imagine if Josh Smith never got hurt, look back at that run through the years. It’s insane.

That's probably the worst stretch in the whole sequence.

We were lucky that Brandt Broussard was such a big fan of LSU that he was willing to wait until the late summer of 2017 on an offer. Had he just decided that he wanted to secure a spot somewhere rather than wait for us, we would have been fricked.

Hal was a good glove man. Should've set the record for bunts in a season at the plate. Really misused there.

It’s a good question and I can’t remember. It could have possibly been one of the following: Jason Williams, Trey McClure, or Nathan Dunn.

This song comes first to my mind when looking at 3rd base over the years. Although I selected one for most of the years, there were many years where this song is very appropriate.

Hint: A Ratt song

Thanks. Updated. The database that I’m using to compile the lists stops in 1997, so 1996-1990 is from news articles and roster lists.

I always felt like a catch should have this mentality of this song especially with a runner on third with less than two outs.
