How old are the kids? 1k maybe if they’re in ap classes in highschool.
only way I would even consider that(still wouldn't do it,) is if they were in one of those AP programs that had you graduating hs as a college sophomore or with an associate's degree

A gift card at a nails place is very effective.

If the parents were planning to pay for college, they might get off cheaper by giving their kid $1000/yr and motivating them to make good grades which could lead to a scholarship and the parents not having to pay for college. There are other ways of looking at it. Also, they don’t have to spend as much money for Christmas or birthdays if the kid buys what they want with the money they earned.

I paid $100 a semester for all A’s. It was a reward, not a motivator. Also paid for 30 and up on ACT.

Good grades, just like doing chores, were expected. Nobody got paid for that. "Some things you're just supposed to do because it's the right thing to do, not just to get paid." was what I was told.
Not doing chores and getting bad grades was where the pay came in. And I was the one paying for it.

Also, I double whatever money they save at the end of each year. One of my children won't spend a dime, and is draining my wallet. I had to double $500 last year. The other blows his money as soon as it hits his hands. He doubled $5 last year.

It's getting expensive with my oldest. It started out doubling $50, and now she's up to doubling $500. Next year, it will be $1000
She'll have enough to buy a car at 16.
The other child will be riding his bike and flipping burgers....

If you consider the cost of a scholarship it may be the best money you'll ever spend as a parent.

Spiel, not spill.
In any case, $1,000 is excessive.

My kids get $25 for A’s and $10 for B’s. I’ll up it in high school. If they get a free ride best money I ever spent

I like to make spending/fun money tied to behaviors like chores and grades, as opposed to an allowance or just buying them what they ask for. That said, $1000 is a lot, but i guess that is relative depending on your income and budget. $1000 may be pocket change for kids who go yachting or country clubbing with their private school friends.

Hell I tried to bribe my son with a pair of Air Jordan's that he wanted if he made all A's. Nope. He BARELY made a C in one of his classes...and that was only after much help from me because he didn't turn in assignments. Oh well...saved me $400. He started out good..and then lost sight of the prize....

Damn. I used to get like 10 bucks if I had all A's for a quarter. A grand for the year. I would have been rich.

We do that with our 7 year old (not any where close to $1000 though). It teaches the value of money as well as motivation to get good grades. He is saving all his money for toys for summer.

When I was just a young baw I would hear my dad beating the shite out of my two older brothers for Ds and Fs. I knew all I had to do was get Cs or better.

Told my kid he's getting a PS5 if he gets straight As all year. Nothing wrong with motivating someone to work harder for compensation. We do it at work all the damn time so why would it be different for kids in school?
ETA: he's gotten them every period the last two years, so something I'm doing is working :p
ETAA: I might be fricked with PS5 supply issues

I use to get $10 per A. But would also earn a belt if I brought home a D.

I posed this offer to my father back in the 80's. His reply was I'm not going to reward you for making the grades you're supposed to make. He also came back with another deal of I'll pay you put you'll have to pay for your car note and insurance. I quickly said we'll keep our old deal of I make A's and B's because I'm capable and I'm supposed to in order to play sports and not get my arse beat.
