Is we won’t find a coach as passionate as Wade was. shite on him all you want, he messed up big time and he and everyone else knows it. Was he the greatest coach ever? No, not even close. But we will not find another coach as passionate about everything he did as Will Wade for a long time. You could see how much he cared about his players and basketball as a whole and I think his teams always reciprocated that feeling. This really sucks. He was possibly building something here unlike anything we’ve ever seen in LSU basketball and it’s a shame that we won’t ever get to see it. Today was my least favorite day of sports fandom since 1/9/12 this hurts worse than Drew Brees’ last game for me.

Agree with all of this. Sports fandom, this day is up there. Pains me to know what we could have possibly had with Wade down the road. I’ll always love the dude. He made it so damn fun.

There are plenty of fine coaches out there who are passionate about what they do, and whose players love them. One of the common defenses of Les was that his players would "run through a wall for him". I'm a Wade fan, but he wasn't a unicorn in the coaching world.

Hell, if Wade was more passionate about covering his tracks and not breaking rules so recklessly, he'd still have a job.

Maybe so, but I agree with the OP. He was reckless, young, and imprudent. He brought it on himself, but if the university would have been able to hunker down and weather the situation out, I think the Wade era would have been a really fun and successful ride. I don't buy the great recruiter/mediocre coach schtick. I you just listen to the guy, he understands all of the problems and has a pretty good bead on how to fix them. Getting teenage basketballers to execute the plan is a different story and more of a process.

At the same time, I don't necessarily blame the administration for pulling the rip cord prematurely. I'm not sure what additional info they have that really may have forced their hand. Still, I would have loved to see them flip off the NCAA and say FU with your double standards, selective outrage, and unequal application of the law. You'll have to pry Wade our of our cold dead hand, and see what they do. Hell, all of these allegations are now pretty much legal with NIL. Until they start going after everyone equally, LSU should tell them to F off rather than bend over.

It really does suck. He made LSU basketball fun again. Consistent top 5 in SEC and always in the playoffs. I hope we find someone who can continue that trend. But I don’t think we finish above .500 next season. This team will be down to nothing but walkons by April. It will be a total rebuild and likely take a long time to get back to where we are now.

They weren't going to weather this situation out. He got busted making deals with a player's fiancee on his university-issued phone and paying up from a personal bank account.

It would've been awesome to see where Wade could have taken this program, but Woodward and Tate didn't pull the rip cord prematurely. Wade fricked himself, and the NCAA wasn't about to just go away if university administration stuck by him.

I’m pretty surprised to hear some LSU fans say Wade underperformed, he was alright, etc….but they are LSU fans and sports fans. Best sec program during his tenure. I’m repeating that, best sec program while he’s been the coach. I’m not going research this, but if someone has a better record in this timeframe it’s by a small margin. Only missed the tournament his 1st year (and that year was still exciting). 4 out of 5 years. That’s 4 straight folks. People in their 20s haven’t been alive for LSU basketball to have done that.

His 3 best players were missed by big schools - Waters, Cam Thomas, Eason

He competed on big players - Smart, Naz, Watford

He developed players - Mays, E Williams, Smart, Days

He found uniquely talented supporting players - Bigby Williams, M Taylor, Gaines

He was going to be great with the portal - Eason, Pinson

His players played hard. Having been the following act to the Ben Simmons experiment and watching the lack of effort and them literally quit…..it was really enjoyable to watch Wade’s teams play hard consistently and to see an engaged, enthusiastic coach.

We absolutely will. There are High School coaches that are passionate and coach better than Wade...and most of them aren't dicks.

Agreed. Kansas, Duke and even Auburn who isn’t a blue blood have provided the blueprint.

That is not true.

I met Wade after a game this year at Walk-ons and told him how I watch LSU BB and Football games from overseas at odd times (9PM) for 11am games or early morning (5AM) for 7pm night games in BR.

Hire me, I promise I would be more passionate than Wade. There are many good coaches out there and always someone better than you have.

The NIL has nothing to do with this situation. Wade paid players from his own pot, which is prohibited. Wade also was entangled in a bribery scam, which he failed to report due to the infractions he had committed would be exposed, not to mention the fact Wade was caught on a FBI wiretap offering to pay players. Denying Wade isn't culpable in any of this is ignorant.

I don’t think anyone is saying that. The issue here is 4 level 1 violations at LSU gets you shamefully fired with cause. 5 level 1 violations at Kansas gets you a lifetime contract. The application of punishment seems to hinge on how historically good your team has been at basketball. The blue bloods are protected while the lesser programs fall on the sword.

University boards and ADs made different choices for different reasons.

Wade caused 100% of this. Sloppiness and lying to the administration is why he is gone.

I think it has a lot more to do with how sloppy Wade was compared to those other coaches, plus it’s a lot easier to replace Will Wade than Bill Self (and I love WW).

He didn’t mess up. He purposely did something wrong for his own personal gain and was bad at doing it. It’s not like a 100 dollar bill slipped out of his pocket.

Yea real passionate. As if the Jews being led into the gas chamber would say: "yea but Hitler is real passionate". No one can imagine the pain the NCAA can inflict on our institution IF they find that LSU intentionally walked away from Institutional Control. Just wait and see if we should write letters of reference for WW's next job app.
