Agree with all the comments. I never thought I would have to screen a Pixar movie before watching it with the kids but wish I had. It was promoted as a family movie but really not appropriate for younger kids.

On top of that it really just wasn’t a good movie. Complete rip off of teen wolf and Godzilla disguised as a “diverse” coming of age movie with a Chinese background. Not sure who this movies was made for but won’t be watching again (and wish I hadn’t watched it the first time).

I was bored. Total lack of humor. My 7 year old loved it.

And early in I was like WTF is this all a metaphor for goddamn periods?? Here I am just me and my 7yr old daughter and they’re talking about tampons. My wife was already in bed and I’m like “fuuuuuuuuck…” thankfully it went over her head and she just liked seeing the pandas.

I mean it wasn’t just woke. It wasn’t just bad. It was over sexualized and borderline inappropriate. I am glad I didn’t watch this with my 10 year old daughter because I would have been more uncomfortable than I already was.

I will say it’s probably not an unrealistic portrayal of young teen girls. My wife is watching it now and she’s not horrified. She says I don’t get it Bc I’ve never been a teenage girl.

But ok, but the movie isn’t directed towards teenage girls. 14 yr old girls are too old for it. So it’s got teen girl themes but directed at little kids.

Honestly when I first saw the trailer and read into it, it was clearly made by someone exactly my age who became Woke and was trying to shove garbage down our throats kids throats. I mean Turning Red with a Chinese Canadian protagonist. That doesn’t raise an eyebrow?

Hopefully they make up for this shite with Lightyear, which looks great.

I knew nothing about it other than it was called turning red and it was about a girl who could turn into a red panda. Didn’t feel the need to screen a Pixar movie.

Fair enough honestly. Pixar also tends to be one of the more conservative studios as well, so it’s sad you have to screen everything for kids these days.

As soon as I saw the title and the age of the female protagonist I knew it was going to be a metaphor for mensuration.

I might watch it later for shits and giggles

No shits or giggles to be had. Don’t remember any humor at all. I’m dumb and was watching it with my young sons before we turned it off

It was incredibly boring, got 30 minutes in (takes about 20 minutes for shite to start happening) and wife turned to me and said, "is it me or is this movie really boring?" I said, "you're right, this movie is hot garbage." and we went outside.

thanks pixar i guess

Not the shits and giggled IN the movie, the shits and giggles FROM the movie, if that makes sense.

Thanks for the heads up. I like kids movies and was going to watch this one. Like another poster stated, I didn’t think I’d need to screen a Pixar movie.

Guess I'm the only one in the thread that didn't think it was terrible. But it's not a movie I need to see again

We've heard nothing but bad things about this film. My wife and I are definitely going to have to watch this before we decide if we will watch it with the kids.

Rotten tomatoes:
Critic score 95%
Audience score 64%

Honestly surprised it’s that high for audience and once more parents actually watch it I bet that will plummet. Comments on the 5 stars all seem to be written by bots lol.

It’s pretty terrible. 100% the worst Pixar movie ever made.

Had it in about twenty minutes before my kid decided he wanted to watch Coco again.

I can tolerate some wokeness if the movie is good

You're part of the problem then.

Because there's nothing good which comes from or involves wokeness.

I just saw where some reviewer from CinemaBlend was the only negative review and he's already had to walk it back and apologize.

Clearly, only a racist and/or sexist wouldn't love this movie. People really suck these days...and I'm not talking about the reviewer.

‘Turning Red’ Film Critic Calls the New Pixar Cartoon ‘Unapologetically Horny’

‘#TurningRed/ #PixarTurningRed is hilarious, heartfelt & unapologetically horny. A sentimental story about parental problems, puberty & pandas that’s endearingly oddball & off-kilter in the best way. Good world building & teen bops. Sandra Oh & newcomer Rosalie Chiang are splendid.’- Courtney Howard

While Howard’s tweets have since gone protected, screen caps of the tweet can still be found floating around Twitter.

They don’t have to. Everybody complaining now will be streaming all their new stuff later, so why would they change?
