A 3 year starter at another power conf. school doesn't transfer to a school without some degree of assurances he will start next season. Otherwise, he would have gone elsewhere (I'm sure LSU wasn't the only school "recruiting" him). Perhaps it lights a fire under Brennan and he shows he is clearly the best QB of the 4 in spring ball. But just like LSU did not get Burrow simply for "depth". I don't think they went out and signed Dainels for "depth" either.
FTR, I'm not "pulling" for any one guy. Just play the guy that gives you the best chance to win.

B) he has 2 years of eligibility left. Could easily split time with / backup Brennan this year and take over next.

Otherwise, he would have gone elsewhere

I seriously doubt BK would tell him this.

Apparently though Daniels sought after LSU and not the other way around. Obviously they wouldn’t pass on adding a talented QB to the roster/depth. I don’t think he was given any type of assurance other than he will be given the opportunity to compete for QB1.

What's missing here is Brennan is in his last year of eligibility while Daniels has 2 years left. So I dont think any assurances needed to be made. Daniels know hiw main competition is Brennan this year, if he doesnt win the job, he still has another year. So that is a big factor I bet.

NO ONE has that assurance! He is told to come in and compete and the best will play. NO ONE is told they will be the starter.

Didn’t we get a transfer from Penn State a couple years back that never sniffed the starting spot? Bolden?
He may not have been a 3 year starter, but he had started some games for Penn State prior to transferring if I remember correctly.

How Burrow become the starter has a lot more to say about Joe Burrow’s instant tenacity to show how hard the work must be put in and the fight to earn the respect of his teammates. As Orgeron talked of Burrow being “the obvious best football mind in the room” at their initial meeting, what developed between Burrow and his teammates doesn’t necessarily translate into that specifically happening with Daniels.

2 totally different situations
They didn't really go out looking for daniels. If that was the case they would've been looking a lot sooner.
He kind of feel in their lap. As far as burrow they went out and got him cause they had no better option. Burrow will tell you he wasn't promised the starting job either.
