Makes me very happy to know our vacation all over the American Frontier last Summer was smarter than Disney.

For about $4k we were able to take 4 kids on a 10 day 2900 mile road trip(fly MSY to Vegas, fly Denver to MSY)

Vegas(just sight-seeing the strip and video games at NY Hotel)
Hoover Dam
Grand Canyon
Zion National Park
Salt Lake City(Antelope Island State Park)
Yellowstone
Mt Rushmore
Royal Gorge
Garden of the Gods
Tour of Air Force Academy
White Water Rafting in Salida.

That's a shitload of driving. frick that.

Again though... I'll never understand why going to Disney World causes such a divide on this site.

I absolutely love driving. But even still, I planned it very well so I never had to drive more than 8 hrs in a day, and only two of those days were 'driving days'. Most days was 3-4 hour drive at the end of an 'adventure day'.

One big mistake was the drive from Yellowstone East Entrance to Buffalo, leaving the park about at 8pm. That Cloud Peak Skyway at midnight was NOT FUN. Deer, ELK, 2 mile long 8% declines, etc joy! Plus it's a beautiful drive that should be done during daylight. Oops.

We should have stayed that night in Cody.

I went with family a few weeks ago. I’m 43, and it was the first time I have ever been. Been to Universal in 2010) I have a 9 and 6 year old..
it was expensive for sure.. I had a great time, it was more for the memories with the kids..

Rides that stood out to me were
Both Star Wars rides, we also built a droid..
Avatar land and the safari ride
Epcot was cool, the greenhouse was pretty cool. I did notice the amount of scooters in the way. And a lot of people did t look like they were in the shape to have one, maybe just laziness… I even asked my wife if there was a scooter parade going on at one point…. I was surprised at the lack of Disney characters walking around, when I did see them they were roped off.. Riding the sky lift into the parks were cool…

awesome. $5,500 now before all travel and food, and you don’t get Disney perks at all with your hotel choice. So a way to make Disney slightly cheaper is not doing Disney things. Brilliant

You literally get the same benefits at a preferred hotel as on site. There’s no difference anymore.

6 people to go anywhere isn’t going to be cheap for lodging. Honestly you should have probably looked at an Air BNB or VRBO.

Or if the trip isn’t fiscally feasible for you, then don’t go.

Meh. You do that for the front of the line. I see people using that and not giving two shits about what the tour guide says that.

We will probably see a version of universals express pass coming soon…but only for those in DVC and staying at deluxe resorts or the four seasons.

Scooters are getting out of hand. On the other hand…some of those little electric motors are pretty impressive.

Witnessed one scooter hauling a 600 pounder up the incline at the Land. I was astonished.

I have no problem with the price.

I’m just calling bullshite on the poster that says you can do a full family Disney trip for $3500

With food, travel, etc you need to expect 6,000 minimum for a full family and that’s if you go very frugal. Don’t even think about the nice places or genie etc etc if you want to spend only 6k

We went a few times during covid and usually do it or land yearly or twice yearly. The last time we went was in November. Genie+ was new and we were only there for Food and Wine but already there was a huge change in rice times. As soon s lightning lane came out waits skyrocketed.
The best Fastpass system was Disneyland's. You basically had to go to the ride to get a Maxpass for that ride later in the day. You could get one max pass an hour.
You could also pay $10 and get plus which allowed you to pick 3 rides on the app. But you couldn't pick the rides until you stepped for in the park. None of that 60 days in advance picking rides.

Since Bob Chapek has taken over there has been a definite decline in quality in multiple areas. They had covid as a cover but parks have had record income since reopening. Covid is no longer an excuse to cut back on entertainment, food and customer satisfaction. They are still only running trams At Magic Kingdom.
Tron construction taking longer than it took to build all of magic Kingdom.
Epcot's been a construction pit for years.

Though I say every year I won't go back for a while and still go back the following year.

Depends on when you go, where you stay, and how long you stay. It’s definitely possible. Depends on how old your kids are too.

Also Look into Land.

Fly direct to Orange county. No reason to go to LA county.
That park is more condensed, has Better rides and the New Orleans area is really neat.
You can stay on property if you like but they have tons of walling distance hotels for less than the cheapest hotel at disneyworld.
You don't need a car. Park hopping is just a walk away.
If you get jaded on Disneyworld I highly suggest going to Land on your next trip. I think it's the better park.

(37 rides in two walkable lands with an attached downtown Disney vs 40 rides in 4 parks you have to travel between with a bus or other transportation)

If you do bare minimum on the park hoppers you can get them for about $100 a day.

•So a 5 day trip for a family of 4 is going to cost $2k just to get in the parks.

•Standard room that sleeps 4 at Pop Century will run about $185 per night. That’s $925 for rooms.

If you eat cheap, don’t go nuts with souvenirs and drive a car that gets around 20mpg you could get there for around $3500 but man. You’ll have to watch every single penny you spend.

it is $1,688 for 4 people for only 3 days in the park with zero hoppers…

That’s for two adults and two kids under 10

That’s not what I said.

I said
quote:

a basic resort hotel and snacks and meals, a family of four is less than 5. If you go really cheap, can be sub 3,500

Which is accurate and proven multiple times in this thread.

I was doing 5 days but you could easily do a 3 day trip with a family of 4 for under $3500. What are we even arguing about again?

ETA

Just did it. 5 days worth of tickets would cost $2,400 for me

No you don’t. They have tents all over the parks, just find one with no wait. I had to do that multiple times bc of issues with disability stuff for one of my kids.
