Rising Gas Prices and Travel?

It's really amazed me up to this point that more hasn't been made of the rising gas prices. People were furious back in 2008 when it got up to $4/gallon. And I would remind everyone that back in 2008 it was just gas that was affected. There wasn't the inflation problem we have now so people had a better ability to absorb the extra gas cost. But yet currently it seems like most people either don't care or have just accepted it. Sorry but I can't accept it, not when gas was $2/gallon just over a year ago.
At what point does it really start to hurt the average American? $4/gallon? $5/gallon? $6/gallon?
For you all personally, have the rising gas prices affected you every day plans or travel plans? Have you changed vacation plans or decided to stay closer to home due to the increase in gas prices?
I know for me I was up in the Smokies last May. I decided to stop there for a few days on my way up to see family in Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky and then drove back through Nashville and Chattanooga on my way back. I really enjoyed the Smokies and was planning on doing a 7 trip to the Smokies, Blue Ridge Parkway (section from the entrance of the National Park to Mount Mitchell) and Asheville. With these gas prices though I am seriously going back and forth on whether to do that, stay closer to home or visit a city instead.
So what about you? Have rising gas prices affect your every day life? What about your travel plans?

I have to cut other areas to mitigate this and other inflation. I only go out once a week max. Used to go out 3x a week. Definitely is going to hurt the local economies as people scale down their spending.

Still traveling as planned.

I can’t wait to see how much it’s going to cost me to fish this summer. Ethanol free in chalmette was $4 a couple of weeks ago when I went.

I paid $3.11 a gallon to fill up this morning, so no.

Of course not.

If I had to guess, I'm probably paying an extra $100-$150 month for gas, so no.

That 16 cents you saved on your July 4th BBQ will allow you to make it about 200 feet of driving distance now.

It probably won't impact me much but I also spend very little on gas so I'm probably less impacted than most people. A tank of gas lasts me like a month.
I remember it costing me $100 to fill up my truck back in 2007-2008 and I had a 45 minute commute to work. It sucked at the time.
It will be interesting to see how much the cost of other goods is impacted though since fuel is an input cost for almost everything.

A 500 mile road trip @ 20 mpg would cost you $62.50 each way @ $2.50/gal and $100 each way @ $4.00/gal.....so $37.50 more each way. That isn't worth thinking about.

I had to cut out playing keno at the local watering hole. That really chaps my arse!

Those are rookie numbers. Most baws on the OT get maybe 14 on the highway in their F350’s.

Just wait for the final bit of helicopter money to get squandered.

My company pays for my gas so no it has not affected me. But I can I imagine most other Americans are definitely being affected by this but at least there aren't any more mean tweets.

My work commute is short so the gas prices in that aspect don’t bother me.
I refuse to drive for a vacation that is more than six hours away, so meh.
I love going to the beach so it would be nice if the rising gas prices would convince people to cancel their trips for the early part of this summer so that condo rental prices would drop

I drove to Montana in November from SWLA. That sucked bad enough with lower gas prices.

High enough gas prices can cause a recession on their own but coupled with general inflation I'd say it's almost a certainty if they go over $5 in the near future.

I belong to a fancy gym that's 10 miles away. I enjoy working out there, get a lot of use out of everything they offer and don't mind paying the premium dues.
But my car gets poor gas mileage and now I'm starting to wonder if it would be better to join the budget gym down the street rather than add the additional travel expense to the fancy gym.
It's not like I can't afford it, but I just think of things in terms of a cost/benefit ratio. I can afford to see any movie for $15, but I don't want to spend that on crappy movies - out of principal, not financial necessity. Throw in a gas spike and then I'm looking at movies, meals, etc as do I really want to pay $xxx for that?

each way @ $2.50/gal
