Because that's the correct tactic when you are defending against a far greater force.

I mean, it's common sense. Think about it in football terms.

How does a smaller offensive line defeat a quicker, more powerful defensive line? You cut block them.

Experience > numbers

Ukrainian forces have combat experience since 1994. All of the experienced Russian forces are still in Syria.

The Russian military's biggest weakness is that they outsource combat power.

The Russians haven’t taken any major cities and they underestimated the Ukrainians resolve. They also expected the President to flee and not stay.

The Ukrainians have inflicted heavy damage and doesn’t help Putin that many of the Russian ground troops had no idea they were going into battle in the Ukraine which has caused a lot of Russian defections.

If the Ukraine can hold on til Monday the game will be be close to over for Putin and his military advisors.

You don’t really believe BS, do you? The Ukrainians are putting this crap out so they can get the US to send equipment and or troops. They are finished even if the Russians are sustaining some casualties. The Russians have them massively outgunned and outmanned.

No reason to be surprised about this. I used to do a once over on Soviet-made armor and equipment brought back from Desert storm. Mostly I did translations from Russian to English on the consoles and gauges. After climbing through T70 and T-80 tanks, various armored personnel carriers, a few helicopters and other equipment, it became obvious that their material is junk.

At the time, I thought that it was simply that they didn't sell their "good stuff" to other countries. Turns out that they don't have any "good stuff." American armor and equipment is light-years ahead of what Russia can make and produce.

I now wonder if we have been fed lies by our government about how powerful the Soviet Union was in order to provide an excuse for nearly unrestricted exorbitant military spending. Of course, it is nice to know that no other nation has anything near what we have in our military inventory.

The Ukrainian military should have taken out every paved/gravel road and highway that leads into Ukraine from Russia and Belarus. Making every route impassable would have forced the Russian ground forces to slowly advance through soft soil. Most of the fuel, troop trans and supply vehicles would be bogged down and choked off. None of their rubber tired vehicles would be able to advance through muddy fields.

A lot of people don’t know this but many of the Ukraine senior officers were Originally Russian soldiers before 94. I have several Ukrainian friends who served in the Russian military and a couple of those guys are the scariest looking guys you will ever meet. Awesome guys but they would slit your throat and not think about it.

I say this because the Ukrainian army knows Russian military tactics extremely well and know how to counter them.
