Texas Vehicle Inspection

I just moved to Texas and I need to get car inspected, license, etc.
I had a tree branch hit my car during Ida and it landed right where my gas cap is on the car. I was doing some reading and gas cap is part of the inspection process. The cap itself is secured but the shield that protects it is gone.
Anyone in Texas know if this will pass an inspection?

It’s $30, just give it a shot and see what happens.

It will pass, most jeeps have an exposed gas cap.

Sometimes a bad gas cap can prompt an error code that results in rejection, that’s all I got. If you’re rejected you will have 30 days to get it fixed and rechecked at no cost.

Damn. My inspection costs $15. FWIW, my headlights are beyond cloudy, I had brake pads that were about 50K miles past their prime, and some wipers that needed replacing, and they passed my truck.

If it doesn't most places will let you go back for free once it's fixed.

depends on the age of the vehicle, diesel/gas, etc.

Be aware that not all counties have the same testing requirements.

You should be fine. If anything, buy a locking gas cap which should be more secure.

Just adding to make sure you have no maypop bald tires, all lights and signals are working as well as no warning lights on the dash. Other than what others have said, you'll be fine.

This is why brake tags are better. Your brake lights work and your horn honks you get a tag.

It will pass. They just check the ability to hold pressure.

Take your car to a quick change oil place to have the inspection done. If you take it to a full service garage they will find something that needs to be fixed before they pass you.
Had that happen to me when I first got to Texas. Full service place wanted all this BS done to a 3 year old car. Quick change I was in and out in 15 minutes.

Why not just replace the gas cap and not worry about it?

If you don’t live in one of the most heavily populated counties, you may not have to have an emissions test. If you do, a gas cap will be necessary.
Other than that, there are thousands of questionable vehicles that pass inspection by paying the tech cash to pass you. Underhanded deals work on Texas, just like the do other states.

$30.00? Just paid $7.50 for an inspection. Are they higher in certain areas for emissions?

After you pass the inspection, ask if there’s a local place where you can go get your physical sticker. There’s a Kroger grocery store near me that prints the sticker for you. You wait about an hour after the inspection, pay your fee at Kroger or wherever, and get the sticker.
