I-10 widening in BR will be 24/7 project for 4 years instead of 8

As it turns out, doubling the size of the workday reduces the timeline of the project....unless they hired whoever did the LA42 widening to do this.
But I think they are getting contractors from Texas.

FIFY.
It's a huge undertaking to widen an elevated freeway through a populated urban area with very limited space that requires at least some expropriation of poorly maintained (but potentially historic) homes in minority neighborhoods. It will probably be the the last project of its kind in Louisiana. It's probably going to eventually be easier politically just to knock down neighborhoods in the suburbs and build a loop.

Let's not act like Texas contractors are the be all end all.
A contractor from Texas completely fricked up the I10 job in front of the Mall of La and Boh Bros ended up taking it over and finishing.

Which means 32 years instead of forever.

The only thing that could save us from traffic hell is a loop around BR to get rid of truckers and through traffic. This project is just spitting in the wind.

It will never be ready in time or on budget.

Anyone can play with numbers on paper.
It'll be 8 and then some.

Approximately 15 - 20 years ago, a contractor named Angelo Iafrate did a big job on widening the I10 - I12 split in Baton Rouge. For every day he managed to cut off the projected time budget, Mr. Iafrate earned a bonus. If I'm remembering correctly, that bonus capped at $1 million, but regardless of the cap, he earned the full amount.
While it would be unusual, finishing early can be done, and has been done, in Louisiana. Let's hope a contractor as motivated as Mr. Iafrate gets this job whenever it is advertised and let out for bid.

This project is what the interstate in BR should have looked like in 1985. We should be doing a project to widen this 1985 project now.

Yeah because anyone that has ever worked construction knows a night shift cuts your schedule in half. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbanghead.gif)

Betcha it will still be 7-10 years and major cost overruns.
