re: Is 1979 USC clearly the most talented team to play LSU in Tiger Stadium?

There's no maybe...many future NFL HOF's on that team...Munoz, Lott and Marcus Allen. Plus Heisman winner in Charles White, Hoby Brenner at Tight End. They were LOADED. And we should have won, rooked by a ref no call at the end. Greatest game in Tiger Stadium history, was there.

I was at both games also. USC game was super exciting. The Tigers legitimately could have pulled the upset. The Alabama game was a great effort by the Tigers but the stadium was miserable. Rained all night and I never felt like LSU had a real chance of scoring. Seems like Bama was on our side of the field all night but managed only one field goal.

quote:. Yeah but he was an excellent coach and a great guy. When he was here I was at a function where he was the guest speaker. He was like a stand up comic and brought the house down.
John Robinson
He told us the story of how he met his wife who was an LSU graduate. She was a pretty lady working at a bank in Los Angeles. When Robinson found that out he told her that he coached in Tiger Stadium before. She replied that she knew he did and he won the game by cheating. His response was You are right you have a good memory. I can laugh about that now although I was not laughing at the time.

1988 Miami. Leave out the big names aspect, but that team was lights out. What they did in a driving rain storm was remarkable. There was no muddling around and everything they did worked. I still have nightmares about that game.

Was at both games. USC had better offense. Bama better defense. I believe we only got into Bama territory once or twice the entire game. But that USC offensive line was the best in the history of college football.

LSU Tiger Stadium saw the 2019 LSU Tigers and the 2020 Alabama Crimson Tide.
They are both up there in the 2001 Miami Hurricanes level of dominance conversation, and in 15 years I'd imagine we're seriously looking at 4-5 NFL Hall of Famers from those collective teams and that may be a conservative estimate.

I was a senior at LSU in the fall of 1979 and I was at the USC game. It was amazing

Every team playing LSU in Tiger stadium would be the "opposing" team.
Actually, only one of the teams playing in Tiger Stadium is ever the opposing team.

Would love to hear Robinson’s thoughts of his USC team vs. 2019 LSU and 2020 Bama. He got a firsthand look at all 3.

I was at that USC game. Was the loudest crowd I was ever witnessed to. As I left the game when it was over, a USC fan stop me and said, "you guys got spirit". Refs took that game away from LSU.

Absolutely the most talented. The loudest I have ever heard Tiger stadium. No one sat the entire game! Game still stands out as one of the best all time!

I was there, sophomore year.
I’ve never seen the stadium in such a raucous state as that night. The FSU Orange throwing game was pretty close, but the USC game was LOUD, with much less fans than the current capacity.
