Construction has started on The Reserve at Howell Place, a 300-unit affordable housing development that will be built at the intersection of Plank Road and Ford Street.

The $70 million development will bookend the IDEA University Prep charter school. Rents... will be based on income and range from $888 for a one-bedroom to $1,531 for a four-bedroom unit.

Zion city gonna tear that up. Affordable housing near Zion City shouldn’t be no where near $1,000. $1,500 near Zion City y’all can gtf with that.

A private school on Plank Road?

quote:

A Texas-based charter school group is readying to open its fourth school in Louisiana and third in Baton Rouge this fall on 15 acres of vacant land just south of the Baton Rouge Metro Airport.

The $17 million facility, which is under construction, will be known as IDEA University Prep. The name a nod to Baton Rouge University Prep, or UP Elementary, a school IDEA took over last summer. The newly constructed facility at 7701 Plank Road will absorb UP Elementary and continue on into the upper grades.

quote:

UP, which opened in 2014 with just kindergartners, struggled as those children reached third and fourth grade and took the state’s LEAP tests. It earned an F letter grade for the 2018-19 school year

I had a bunch of section 8 housing at one time. Gave a very needy, and large family a very nice sofa, love seat, rocking chair, coffee table and bedroom set. Found 90% of it in the yard 3 months later missing legs and cushions and rained on. They were all sitting and sleeping on the floor inside again. Good luck with this....

I wish I had a camera for the out of towners who find it online and go in person to check it out.

Affordable housing is successful under the right management. If you run a tight ship then this will be fine.

Also, that is a mixed income housing community - which means most of the community is going to give a frick. It will be fine as long as security is in place.

There has already been some recent housing developments in the area where these apartments will be located. Those developments, at least from the outside looking in appear to be showing signs of holding up.

I’m sure that’s just the amount the government has agreed to pay up to. No one there will actually be coming out of pocket.
