Favorite - Olympic
Least fave- Everglades
Can’t speak to anything under the radar at the moment.

Olympic really blew me away though. It seemed to have everything you’d want to see. Beautiful mountains scenery, amazing wildlife, great hikes, rainforest , and beautiful beaches. I could move to that area and never leave.

Yea I went recently and have to imagine this is on the lower end of the park system. Kind of depressing with neighborhoods literally on the other side of the wall.

Favorite: Glacier/Yosemite

Least favorite: Petrified Forest

Under the radar: Mesa Verde.

Headed to Lake Clark, Denali, Katmai and Kenai this summer so it’s very possible my Favorite could change.

Nothing wrong. Just my least favorite. We drove through the park on our way to Grand Canyon.

Hiking and mountain biking. The bike trails are shared with horses, but it’s usually not a problem except during fall leaf season.

Never did any rafting. I’ve gotten into pack rafting since I’ve been in AK. Imagine it would have been a good place to pack raft/fish.

Least Favorite - Channel Islands National Park - Just not much too it.

Under The Radar - Great Sand Dunes National Park - Really off the beaten path to get to.

Both Favorite and Least Favorite - Yellowstone - The actual Disney of NPs.

I've been to all of the following and I have liked every one enough to not be able to list it as my "least favorite."

Rocky Mountain
Black Canyon (probably my under the radar pick)
Mesa Verde
Glacier (my favorite)
Smoky Mountains
Badlands
Zion
Arches
Capital Reef (another under the radar pick)
Canyonlands
Yellowstone
Grand Teton

I don't think I can pick a favorite but I'll play along.

Favorite: Arches. I didn't get nearly enough time there but it had a mystical, magical feel that I want to go back and experience.

Least Favorite: Great Sand Dunes. It was super neat, but after a few hours of walking in what feels like quicksand and sledding down the dunes, it lost some of its luster. Blistering hot in the summer. The nearest lodging and rental store feels like something from a Rob Zombie movie set. Bonus points for the hummingbirds.

Under-the-radar: Crater Lake. It's a bit out of the way but man it left an impression. Otherworldly. Stayed in the lodge. Sat out on the back patio in near zero light pollution watching satellites buzz through the starry sky. The hike down was a chore and the depth of the water at nearly 2,000' wigs me out.

crater lake is probably the most visually arresting NP i've been to, but its a two-day visit max. we stayed in the lodge, drove the rim, hiked wizard island...and thats about all there is to do

There's a lot more to do pretty close by, if you head North. Bend and Mt Bachelor are about an hour away. Smith Rock State Park is about half an hour outside of Bend and is a pretty cool place to spend a day.

The Painted Hills and Timberline Lodge(The Shining) are also an hour or so outside of Bend and worth checking out.

Yellowstone is far and away my favorite

Great Basin is under the radar like a mf. You can hike through an ancient forest to wheeler glacier, then go into the Lehman caves. It's my recommendation for anyone who can only do one park

Not a fan of grand canyon, mostly bc of the over exposure. Canyonlands is much cooler for my money

if you get a quarter of a mile off the pavement, it's like you're completely alone. If you're on asphalt, you might as well be in a moshpit. Early in the season and late in the season are the best times to go, pre memorial and post labor days

Under the radar: Carlsbad Caverns. Awesome and unique

Years ago we did Carlsbad. We got there the day before & saw the bats flying out at sunset. There was a small theater style seating area around the mouth of a cave opening. You sit there & wait. When it starts, you see 1 or 2 bats flying out of this cave hole in the ground. Then there’s 10-15, then more, then hundreds & hundreds! They are swirling in a huge circle as they climb in height. They’re behind you, above you, all around you. It’s so freaky & amazing. Then, less & less, then they are gone. The next day we toured the caverns, which was my first cave experience. I’ve been in many bat caves over the years, but none as amazing. The bats at dusk was something I’d love to experience again

Favorite: Grand Canyon, North Rim

Least: Sequoia, Trees are awesome, but that's it.

Underrated: Isle Royale National Park, I have yet to visit but it looks beautiful and it seems like no one knows about it. It's shut down completely during winter.
