1. United States
2. Russia
3. China
4. India
5. Japan
6. South Korea
7. France
8. United Kingdom
9. Brazil
10. Pakistan

basically the US spends alot of money on ambitious projects that amount to nothing, which is a big risk in future military spending.

Yeah I bet we are number one when it comes to being woke.

Combat readiness and effectiveness, not so much.

With around 2 million active military personnel in its armed forces, China by far has the best manpower in its military, according to Global Firepower Index as of January 2022. In comparison, India has the second-highest manpower in its armed forced with 1.45 million, followed by the US at 1.4 million military personnel. However, manpower alone does not determine the strength of an army.

China has almost twice as many personnel. Power in numbers until the nukes drop.

Our military would never drop a nuke nowadays.

I don't agree with the OP's comments, but we do subsidize/prop up the military in Japan and ROK with our own troops and supplies, and we provide billions in aid to Pakistan.

Don't forget the newly-strengthened Afghan military. Thanks Brandon.

I honestly thought it was more than that. What do they have in reserve?

now simply remove the nukes from the equation and we arent even going to be on the list as we will be around #20 in the world most powerful military

we are only #1 because of the nukes and not because the military scares anyone

China has oceans to its east, vast deserts and the Himalayas to its north and northwest, impenetrable jungle to most of its west and south. Apart from invading Taiwan if they ever develop sufficient amphibious capability, there's not many places they could feasibly send those troops. It's really a means of internal social control and to give jobs to millions of young men who might get restless and have ideas if they were unemployed. China is a major military threat to us, but the manpower isn't a big part of it.

Video said 800,000, but they made a distinction. In the US, the reserves are equipped almost as well as active duty and take part in routine training.

Our reserves are combat ready. Most nations’ are not.

Hahahaha you’re funny. Wait, are you serious?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Our blue water navy and air force alone are sufficient to royally frick up any country in the world. We also have the largest, most capable amphibious assault/invasion capabilities and can bring to bear the single best main battle tank ever invented.

We have 1.4 million active duty soldiers with close to 1 million reserves that actively and continuously train.

If we got into a real war with Russia or China, and our country truly wanted to win it, we would.

Yes, the US is the only country in the world that has heavy lift capability. China and Russia couldn't cross an ocean.

The big point here is that any major conflict which might happen will be akin to the first two World Wars in that they will not be on US mainland soil.

We'll have to worry about long-range missiles, but it's a very big stretch to think an enemy force would be enough to secure a foothold here after having fought all the battles necessary to get from Europe or Asia to here.

The question for me is not whether we can grow larger- but whether we can afford to maintain what we have. We have 30 trillion in debt and that means we have to cut back and / or raise taxes. Either way, I don’t see the defense budget expanding beyond its current allotment- which is huge.

We are currently in a precarious position financially. Any unforeseen events be it pandemic, war or some sort of financial meltdown will beg our politicians to borrow more money to address it. We can I’ll afford to do so

I imagine tampons and gender reassignment surgeries will start to eat into our military budget

The US is damn near impossible to invade currently. We have oceans to our east and west. Arctic and mountains to our north, currently occupied by a friendly neighbor. And desert and mountains to our south currently occupied by a friendly neighbor.

We also have major military bases/presence in all four corners of our continent.

Eta
Damn it. I didn’t mean we had flan on the southern border.
