ATF gets caught with a "registry"

ZeroHedge Article

What always proceeds gun confiscation historically? A Registry.
A Registry of guns and gun owners is a tool that the federal government, the DOJ, and the ATF have had on their wish list for decades now. Anti-gun politicians and lobbyists have sold a registry as a tool for stopping crime, enforcing universal background checks, and ensuring public safety.
quote:
In reality, a Registry guarantees that large-scale confiscation will happen at some point. That's why the ATF is forbidden explicitly from keeping a searchable database by law
quote:
So the ATF currently is in possession of nearly 1 Billion of these records. Here's the direct quote attributed to the ATF from GOA: "In total, ATF manages 920,664,765 OBR as of November 2021. This includes digital and an estimated number of hard copy records that are awaiting image conversion. It is currently estimated that 865,787,086 of those records are in a digitalized format."
So over 850 million of those records are in digital format, making them easier to search. GOA claims this constitutes a "partially complete database of guns and gun owners."

Contact your representatives. Getting angry and doing nothing solves nothing. Blowing their phones and inboxes up is the only way to get their attention.
I've already reached out to mine yesterday on this topic. The ATF is a thug organization that needs to be reigned in. They try to make laws outside the legislative body and then act indignant when someone challenges them on it.

The 4473 is a god damned registry. Who does not know this? It’s a form with owners name, owners ssn, fire arm type and fire arm sn.

Oh gee-the government lied.
Anyone who didn’t think that they were keeping records is foolish.
Anyone who thinks the government will take the guns of Americans without an armed conflict is even more foolish.

The ATF has been taking digital photos of 4473's during audits for a LONG time. The ATF just makes up the rules as they go along, FFL's have to deal with field agent "opinions" like they are law.

Genuine question. Is there a law against this?

Short answer is yes. There is a law that prevents the FEDGOV from having a national gun registry/database. The ATF has already violated the law back in 2016 I believe and was supposed to "delete" almost 250 million records.

So if there are an estimated 20 million gun sales a year does that mean they have 46 years of records which would predate the background check law?

Neither does contacting your representatives. They work for the state, not their constituents.

I disagree, a lot of pressure on senators and house members helped defeat the arm brace reclassification last time, along with the massive public outcry on the public comments section of that ill conceived proposal.
It brought enough heat to make them act. They also get really pissed off when you remind them that an executive branch asset is trying to making law outside of it's limits and bypass their legislative authority.

It is what it is. It's illegal for the gov to have a registry, but if/when they ban private ownership, your gun will be illegal too. At that point the registry will miraculously appear, and it will be "for the greater good", and we won't have a leg to stand on. The "no registry allowed" law will be in a group of laws that will be eliminated.

Big surprise. I saw a video of a youtube guy talking about a Senator or Congressman bringing up the issue formally. I have never thought that they weren't keeping a registry of some sort.
I also saw a recent video about them going after certain Amish communities and people selling them guns in private sales because the Amish don't tend to have state issued ID's and what not. Not sure how much there is there, but nothing surprises me with certain government agencies, especially when they have an administration that will give them wide leeway.

My LGS has 4473's everywhere. They are behind on putting them in a filing cabinet. I asked them why don't they keep them electronically and they said ATF would make any E document searchable. Guy who ran the store said I ain't making their job easy for them. Dude gets all my business.

As necessary as this is, it's not going to happen while the Dems control the House, and likely won't happen if he Republicans take it back

Truth. Look at Republicans "protecting" the 2nd Amendment lately. Realize that the government does not give one iota for it's "constituents". Only concern is to protect their power.
SAF
GOA
These organizations do the yeoman's work to fight for 2nd Amendment. Hopefully they are already on this.
