NASCAR - What happened to you?

NASCAR - The Clash Will Be Trash
Just read this sad article. NASCAR has definitely lost its way. Earnhardt must be flipping in his grave... From #1 in this article to all the rest of the list mentioning all the convoluted rules, racing formats, etc... And they wonder why there is an attendance and sponsor problem. SMH.

People hate change.

Its the offseason, come back in three weeks

Argument #2 could apply to any of the previous 40 something clash races held at Daytona, so perhaps the author just doesn’t like the clash.

They better be careful., Formula 1 is growing fast in the US and could choke them out

Their version of the Jussie Smollett caused a lot of backlash

Well, that and some people don't care to be labeled white supremacists based on a garage door pull rope being called a noose.

Seems like NASCAR has been trending down long before going woke... not that it helped.

Lack of brash, big personality drivers.

Exactly. NASCAR’s decline started when they decided to make it a national thing and left behind the base that made them get to where they were.
It goes beyond “going woke.” They abandoned Rockingham and other small
market tracks. The drivers became dudes that their original fans couldn’t relate to.
They got too big too fast and the spiral has been on since. I still believe NASCAR’s decline started the day Earnhardt died.

Nah...the downward trend started long before that. The Car of Tomorrow, the playoff format, and the lack of drivers with personality/charisma have really done a number on the sport. NASCAR was healthier when it was regional as well. It was a southern sport through and through. You also had giant personalities like Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Cale Yarborough, and the Alabama Gang that made it entertaining. Now it's all so stale and refined. The sport was much better when it was redneck.

3rd generation always destroys the family business..

It’s not just what is on the track.
Many of the tracks, especially the Speedway Motorsports tracks, have ruined the at the track experience.
Cracking down on the night time parties in the campgrounds. The ridiculous fees being charged for vendors to bring their souvenir and food trailers out to the tracks. The dumbass rules for golf carts. Then add the cost of a race weekend.
15 years ago I could drag my camper to the track and spend less than $500 for the weekend on camping and tickets. Now it’s more than $1,000 for a mediocre weekend.

Wrong, but don't let reality get in the way of your dumb political points.

They've been on a decline for a while. It stems from when they started abandoning their core audience to chase after an audience for whom they would never be much more than a mere curiosity.

Cookie cutter tracks, no more fun at the tracks, bad economy couldn't support the expanded backstretch grandstands, car of tomorrow, Toyota Camrys on the track, lack of hero/villain drivers, wokeness, all equal Dad not being interested any longer, therefore neither is his son.
It's a sad but interesting study how such a huge industry took a dive.

Ah yes, the annual "bitch and whine about whatever is new before Daytona" thread. So they're trying a non-points race at a venue in L.A...who cares? The Clash is an exhibition race anyway and was poorly attended/watched when it was at Daytona every year.
