We bought an XC60 new three years ago and while it is a very nice vehicle aesthetically and the interior is hard to beat, mechanically it is crap. We’ve had constant problems. Everything from deteriorating wheel bearings to ABS censors needing to be replaced to electrical problems.

Would not recommend. Tell your friends.

Volvo wishes it could be Daewoo. Shame the wrong company went out of business.

Learned that lesson in 05. The electrical system went out yearly. The dealership took some weird pride in the effect it is part of owning a "luxury" vehicle.

You buy the old body style (Ford) or the new one (Geely)?

The Swedes are looking to buy out the Chinese parent company they sold to, so maybe quality will return.

just wait until you have to replace the ignition switch, 3 hidden screws you cant see but must feel for and all at strange angles you cant really get to, then the dash is made of pressed fiberglass board with a paper thin plastic shell glued over top of it and will break if you bend or flex it or look at it wrong, and you cant buy a replacement dash cover if it breaks.

i replace it in my niece's car and would gladly pay $300 to let the shop fix it but it has to be a volvo dealer since no one wants to work on volvos no matter how much you pay.

We have a 2018 XC90 with the turbo 4 cylinder. It’s had a couple of minor issues with the driver’s seat adjustment and controls. But otherwise it’s been fine. My wife loves it.

Maintenance is expensive, but not BMW expensive.

Only has about 30,000 miles.

We are probably going to replace it with a larger vehicle next year. It’s a bit too small for us now. I like driving it but it does have a fragile feeling. Very different than my 4Runner, which isn’t very pleasant to drive but feels like it’s more solid/sturdy.

I read about the new XC100, but so far Volvo hasn’t released any information on that.

Our mechanic complains every time we bring it in because of how unnecessarily difficult it is to work on

We’re not waiting for anything else to break. We’ll be trading it in this month.

That’s the Geely. We had one from that year but my wife smashed a deer with it. Did $30k+ worth of damage and a/c still needed replacing to tune of $4k+…traded that bad boy in.

I have a friend who was obsessed with getting a Volvo. Like yourself, he bought a brand new one, he had it for a week and the engine blew up. He foolishly kept the car and it was an absolute nightmare. He drives a Toyota Tacoma now.

We’re at this point now with the latest 2k worth of repairs. Looking to Lexus most likely.

Volvo went to shite after the early 00's. My first car was a 96 850 GLT and that thing was a rock solid tank. Slow as shite, but you couldn't kill it if you tried. It would probably still be running to this day had I not wrecked it.

From '00 onward, they've been turds. My old man bought an '01 S80 from a friend that he thought he could fix up. Throttle body, transmission, and ECU all took a shite before 100K. That generation S80 was probably the worst car Volvo ever made.

We've had three and are still driving one. The Swedish versions were solid. The one we have now is a Ford version and, so far, it's been pretty trouble free. The seats are great, it rides good, and gets reasonable mileage. I hope the Swedes get it back. They made a good, reliable, vehicle that was safe and great for long trips. We kept our first wagon for 17 years and I still regret getting rid of it. It was a trouble free as any Toyota we've owned, most were if you went with a FWD, naturally aspirated model.

You probably wouldn't find one made in China in this country:

Where are Volvo cars made? The vast majority of Volvo vehicles are assembled in Sweden, mainly at the Torslanda and Skovde facilities. Volvo cars for the Asian market are assembled across four facilities in China. Volvo Cars recently opened a plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina, where all American market Volvo S60 sedans are made. The next generation of 2022 Volvo XC90 SUVs will begin production there in the near future.

This is not a recommendation to buy a new one. I wouldn't and we've owned three and have one now. It's been fine, but it's from the Ford era.
