At the end of the day he still has a Bitcoin at it's current rate.

Yeah but he is also getting incentives for each playoff win
I want to say it was $500K last week and this week and will be another $1 million if they win NFC championship plus additional for Super Bowl win.

It was an incentive laden deal.

Why is he paying taxes if he lost money on the investment?

That's funny, but I'm sure he will survive

This assumes he got paid out a lump sum at the start of the contract, which is not how it works other than his signing bonus.

How much is he getting paid or has gotten paid from the Browns?

This is not a big as an oof as it appears. He can sell now and collect the income loss for 2022 tax year and buy ETH to avoid the wash sale and just HODL until the price recovers. (BTC and ETH follow each other pretty closely.)
It will recover and likely increase much more.

Converting your salary to bitcoin doesn't somehow exempt you from paying income tax

OBJ also got a $750K bonus after the Rams beat the Bucs yesterday and will potentially get a $750K bonus if they beat the 49ers and another $1 million bonus if they win the Super Bowl. So OBJ might make up those losses if Bitcoin rises back up in value again.

Another thing. We are only hearing about the $750K because it is public knowledge.

What about the 100s of thousands in BTC OBJ anonymously received form Stan Kroenke that he is paying no taxes on?

that will be a separate taxable event. He hasn't (as far as we know) realized those losses

I’ve found that most Bitcoin people are like gamblers…

When they’re winning and Bitcoin is shooting up, it’s all they talk about and love to show it off

When they’re losing and Bitcoin is tanking, it’s crickets .

Hopefully he's taking the bonus money in a more traditional form of payment.

You're assuming he doesn't have to sell some just to cover taxes. If so he wouldn't have that to buy ETH.

And his taxes wouldn't be 50% because he played games outside CA.
