And I thought some of the little towns east of Jackson on I20 were bad. They’re amateurs compared to these guys.

What is it about small towns that they can’t get over themselves?

If you don’t do anything wrong you have nothing to worry about

Most of the people I grew up with that became police officers were not what you would call upstanding citizens.

Both cops in Maurice, LA says those are rookie numbers.

One night I was following a friend to a party. We were stopped at that 4-way when the lights lit up. The cop pulled both of us over at the intersection. There is no way he could have clocked us inside of their jurisdiction because it doesn't start until after the intersection. Doesn't matter, he got us both.
Before my court date, I called the city that butts up to their jurisdiction and talked to them about it. I didn't have to explain anything. The lady already knew what I was going to ask and why. She just laughed and wished me luck.
I wonder what happens if you just blow off the cop in a situation like this? Like they approach the car, you see that they're from Trinity, which you know you haven't entered, so you tell them right then and there that they're outside their jurisdiction, roll up your window, and drive away the direction you came from. If they call the neighboring jurisdiction, it sure sounds like they wouldn't do anything to enforce on Trinity's behalf.
As to the OP, was about to post this myself after running into it online. When the county sheriff says the town is out of line, they're way out of line. I hope the feds do go down there and bust some heads, issue some refunds, and take away all of that equipment.
15 cops for a town of 1200 people? Unreal.

Do the cops in these towns write tickets to locals or do they try to keep it to people passing through? I couldn't imagine living in a little town and having to watch the speedometer every time I leave the house.

They got me a couple of years ago. The ticket itself was written by the police chief and for location of violation, it said on the ticket “next to the old beauty shop.”
You know you’re in a small town when the chief is writing tickets.
I called them and asked if I could just pay it and get it dropped to a non-moving violation and they agreed. I paid $180 for a muffler violation.

I’m not really sure, but considering that they racked up >$80,000 in traffic ticket revenue in 2018 when they only had 2 police officers, and it isn’t like there’s that much traffic going through Brookside (even for Jefferson County), they have to be hitting the local drivers at least as often as out-of-towners to be keeping up those numbers.
