How can mainstream suburban people be so aloof of the capabilities of the space program?

remember watching the "Inspiration4" documentary on Netflix and remember hearing a person, one of the family members I think saying that they thought one of the crew members were going to the Moon.

We haven't had the ability to launch people to the Moon since 1972 but in a couple of years NASA might have that capability.
How could society be that aloof?
Is mainstream suburban society too obsessed with reality TV to think of anything else?
I'd love to see the reactions of the reality show loving masses of red blooded suburban America if they started seeing promos for big budget space adventures on the reality show channels.

So our technology has regressed?

Yes, and it’s nothing new. Public interest in the space program nosedived even before the end of the Apollo lunar missions.

What does "suburban" have to do with it?
Posted on 1/19/22 at 6:44 am to CaptSheridanB5
Bc I’ve got my own shite to do

Why not?

Going to the moon should be a top priority for this country. It's a disgrace that we haven't been back in as long as it has been

Cost and desire to spend money elsewhere.

Not really true. The Saturn IB, missing the 2nd stage of the V, did missions until 75... including putting up the first manned space station.

Has it "regressed"? Kindof yes but mostly no. One must consider the absolutely incredible technology and sheer power of the Saturn V rocket, but also the expense of keeping a fleet on-hand for a half-century. And the Lunar Module as well.
So yea, if the U.S. Government allocated $500,000,000,000 to SpaceX and demanded we have astronauts on the moon within three months, that would undoubtedly fail miserably.
By the same token, if I gave you $100 and an 8-Track tape and told you I wanted to be listening to it within one hour, the chance of that happening is rather slim. But has our music technology regressed?
BTW, the Lunar Landings were a hoax crowd use the 'technology regressed' argument often. Is that your take?

Why? Because we can is not a good enough reason

I don't agree. Unless we have a specific legitimate purpose, that's a whole lot of tax money being spent on bottle rockets.

No shite. That doesn't make any sense. Of course we have the "ability" to put people on the moon, it just seems like we haven't had the need or desire to do so. That's not the same thing.

Even the specific legitimate purpose behind Apollo (as far as Congress and the public were concerned) was nothing more than a dick-measuring contest with the Soviet Union.

pretty sure we have it, just don't use it.

So people who live in cities and in the country are very aware of the capabilities of the space program?

Because we never have

Every moon landing thread goes here. You hoaxers are so easy to debunk though, I actually enjoy it. I even met one of y'all for coffee and had a great two hour discussion.
What is your #1 gotcha for believing it was faked? Which item is the one you absolutely refuse to accept?
