Second/third opinion?

I’ve been going to the same dentist since I was a child so I didn’t know upselling was a thing. Although I have made the guy wealthy over the course of my life.

Yes. Chain dentists suck. My dentist got married and moved. So I tried a new dentist. I had insurance, but I still had like $400 OOP for a crown and a filling.
I had to pay the $400 in advance. Before I went in the back. Yes a red flag.
I go in back and have some reaction with my heart pills and my BP is 165 over 85 which was too high to be sedated they said.
Sent me home. I'm the mean time I talked to my uncle an Orthodontist who referred me to a friend of his and so I didn't go back and finish the initial procedure. I went to get a refund and they kept half of it.

Try Dr. Crentist in Scranton, PA.

In Baton Rouge, I have been seeing Dr. Ronald Gioe for 6 years and have not had one upsell. He's quick, to the point, and gets you out of there.

I made this mistake when I needed to find a dentist as an adult. Hadn’t seen anyone since high school and was having tooth pain.
The chain dentist tried pushing a fancy antibiotic injection treatment for my gums. Instead of fillings, they did a crown and inlay. She also removed all of my older mercury amalgam fillings. When I got the bill I was completely estimate I was talked into applying for one of those care credit cards to pay for most of the work.
The crown was nothing but trouble. She didn’t grind down the tooth properly, and the crown popped off 3-4 times over the years before I finally had a new one made by my current dentist.

I have to say it went better than expected. Just saw the dentist for the tooth. Said it was cracked and I need a crown. He ground down the cracked tooth and put a temporary crown. I'll be getting a gold crown. No sell job and while it seemed a little expensive I think it's because I have insurance. I'll be out $700 bucks for a gold crown that seems a little expensive but the insurance company will pay for the other half.
Good experience though I suspect this isn't typical given it wasn't a regular visit.

Why?

Are you a dentist? Do you know what needs to be done? More likely you don’t know what you need and the dentist wants to help you keep your teeth and not get dentures. Teeth whitenings and straightening, sure you don’t need that, but your teeth probably look like shite. But X-rays and preventative restorations to see the extent of damage in your teeth and prevent serious damage before it becomes serious

Well, the options presented was gold or zirconia which I guess are higher end. I asked the dentist and he said that they both have pros and cons. He told me that he has patients who have had gold crowns for decades with no problem. It's a the last molar so it won't show. Well since I live in a nice suburb they don't offer porcelain?
I'm happy that I it'll cost me less than $1000.

I've changed dentist's several time the last few years for exactly this reason, all of the techs are constantly trying to upsell, it's like being held prisoner in a chair with your mouth being held open during a two hour infomercial

Drop the insurance plan and find a dentist that has their own savings plan.

Get consult before approving any work

The only dentist I would trust is Billy Cannon.

Go to Mexico.
Molar City is ten miles from Yuma, AZ. More dentists or capita than in city in the world. 40 cents on the $.

Getting ripped off by my dentist is just not something I’ve ever even thought of. I’ve probably been getting ripped off all my life.
OP, I recommend Dr Mindy Moore at Hood Dental in Denham if you’re in that area.

I see your problem, move. How do you expect to have good teeth living in a place like Sugarland?!

I've been through at least 5 dentists in my life but it's usually over the hygienist trying to talk to me too much. Just clean my fricking teeth, Karen. I can't answer questions when your hands are constantly in my mouth.
