I was just reading about President James K Polk's bladder stone surgery at which he had at age 17. They drilled through his taint and prostate to remove them, leaving him sterile. He was awake for the procedure. Tough old president. Be glad you're alive today lol

No need to give up coffee, baw.

October 21, 2021, New York, NY — A new study using genetic data of hundreds of thousands of people suggests that daily coffee and caffeine consumption can prevent kidney stones.
“Coffee and Caffeine Consumption and Risk of Kidney Stones: A Mendelian Randomized Study” was published in the National Kidney Foundation’s (NKF) American Journal of Kidney Diseases (AJKD).
“Our findings show that going from, for example, one cup a day to 1.5 cups per day, reduces the risk of kidney stones by 40 percent,” said co-author of the study, Susanna C. Larsson, PhD, Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm. “Our findings strongly suggest that regular coffee consumption reduces the risk of kidney stone formation.”

Call your doc. There are some things they can prescribe to help break them down. If they are a certain size though they can be so tough to pass you need surgery. Drink tons of water see if they will flush.

Beer was what my parents swore by. Helps flush your kidneys and helps with the pain

3 time veteran of the Kidney Stone Wars here. Demerol can be your friend . Kidney stone pain will knock a person to the floor and they will stay there. I drink 3 cups of coffee everyday. I stay away from orange juice and soft drinks. I have not had a stone in 20 years ,but I had 3 all within a 2 year period.

Coffee alone is not going to give you kidney stones. Do you drink plenty of water? What’s your diet like? To simply blame coffee is wrong.

Old Cajun told me how to pass 'em...Slam down a six pack of tall boys- your choice. Wait as long as possible to pee-wham! Stone removed!

I have had 9 Stones over the years, 1 i had to have removed in the hospital, 1 I passed in DWF airport between flights, 1 at a client location in the middle of the day.
now when I have an attack, I do not bother going to the doc or hospital - I just drink a ton of water, and then go walk a couple laps around the office.

I am in the middle of one right now have been feeling bad for the last few weeks pain in my side stomach messed up. It all came to a head Thursday nigh Friday morning. Pain got so bad I drove myself to ER. The symptoms presented as diverticulitis. When they did CAT scan they found it 9mm kidney stone blocking my kidney. They had to put a stent in to drain my kidney and take pressure off it. I will have the procedure where the break it up this week.
In the ER the hit me with a shot of morphine and it didn’t touch the pain.

Dude! You sound like me. I’ve had 16 since I was 13, passed one in DFW and had one removed with a basket. I passed one the morning of the 2004 National Championship. Mine are calcium. What about everyone else?

I literally had 20 stones back in 2011-2012 thanks to my 3 red monsters a day habit. Worst was 10mm infected and required surgery. My doc at the time told me to give up juice and sodas and drink coffee, water, wine, and beer and nothing else
Hadn’t had a stone in 5 years then I slowly increased the juice consumption and now I’m cooking a 5mm stone.
Best way to get rid of it is passing a lot of beer through it or my method which involves a glass of wine and a bottle of water until you pass out.

i got 2 shots of morphine on my 1st stone, and it did nothing for the pain at all. honestly when i have one now, it hurts like hell, but im desensitized to the pain and i do not let it phase me much - usually after drinking some water and walking, it stops moving and the pain subsides and i go back to doing what I was doing.
the worst is the stone getting stuck partial way out and having to pull it out by hand.

There’s just nothing like the pain of a kidney stone. The nausea is what gets me. Had 2 and the last one the doc wanted to wait a week until doing surgery to get it. Hell of a week.
