HURRICANE EVACUATION

Sounds awesome but the only real improvements we need for hurricane evacuation is to make sure the Yscloskey bridge actually works on a consistent basis.

Look at all my neighbors in here. I am still torn on the issue because of the traffic it will cause. Yes, it is down the road but all them trucks have to get there and back. I wish there was more info on this and it does seem like it is being forced down our throats.

Not only that, but 50% of da Parish voted for JBE in the 2019 general election.

Almost 20k votes for Bush in 2004 and 11k votes for Trump in 2020.

Trump's populism works well in St. Bernard.

St. Bernard is not a true conservative parish.

Imagine all those big rigs clogging up the green bridge. They will have to take Paris Rd to get out of there

Now imagine if/when they demolish the Claiborne overpass

A forward-thinking state would consider building a 510 river bridge and snaking it along the gen degaulle corridor to link with wank xpway/I-49..... Not that Louisiana is a forward-thinking state.

Why

Maybe if it’s a one way bridge where you only go to Algiers and not come from Algiers

There’s just not enough traffic. The ferry is never full when I go on it

It’s way overdue for Mississippi River bridge south of New Orleans

That probably ends the cruise industry downtown

Most intelligent people realize that Valero and Chalmette Refining won't be around here forever. CR especially isn't in the greatest financial shape right now and it would not surprise me at all if they shut down in next 5 years.
You're right, I don't know anything about the Valero refinery but I know CR needs a lot of upgrades.

CR seems to be going down the Alliance path.

Tons of deferred maintenance, tons of upgrades needed.

Every year becomes less and less efficient

Then eventually, ooh, it's too expensive to run it anymore, need to find a buyer who can invest in it

Finally, something will happen (storm, fire, reduction of gas prices) and they will say oh well we tried shut it down.

You are trying to explain this to people who don’t give a frick. If they are not from St Bernard they probably haven’t looked much into this, but they are quick to say what is good for them parish parish folks.

Not gonna happen unless cruise ships can fit under it. So basically it's not gonna happen.

You would need a shite ton of trucks on the road to clog up the green bridge.

You need it... let's be honest PBF is run by morons and may not be around long... even with their "announced" biofuels project. I would expect them to be up for sale or bankrupt in a matter of a few short years at the longest.

Rumor is Valero may sell Meraux. With a push away from traditional oil and gas by the illiterate's of the world, companies that are heavy in oil are looking elsewhere.

Without either, Chalmette is just a dumping ground of nothingness.

First year they are expected to process 180K containers.

One of the questions I have for the port folks, is, how is that distributed between rail/road/other barge, and what is the export / import split?

If it's 50/50 import and say 1/3 rail you are looking at 30K containers coming in and 30K going out per year. That would be 80 - 100 units on the road, each day, each way. That won't shut down road systems but it surely will make an impact.

I had heard they might do a $500 million project based on renewable diesel?

This isn't that big of a project, and there's plenty of available capacity.

Green Bridge isn't exactly the I-10 in Baton Rouge or the CCC in New Orleans.
