Probably because everyone agrees that will be in the form of a new Florida Av expressway
What down the road is more worried about is that rerouting St Bernard Highway will reduce their business traffic, but there really isn’t much business down there to begin with, other than places like the Green Store, Cuda’s, and Casanovas Seafood. Basically, everyone on St B Highway from Colonial to Sugar Mill will be affected, and the East Bank of Plaquemines

That would be awesome. Maybe add an access road for trucks to connect to Paris without upsetting the natural suburban beauty of Chalmette
The Florida Avenue Expressway plan is still in a binder somewhere.

great, how much does it cost? when does construction start? how will this help traffic?
the only concrete plan is the port is going ahead (like the airport) and we'll figure out the rest (infrastructure) later.

That said, I think the port in The Parish is a great idea because it is downriver of the city and has decent interstate access and rail access. If it was on the westbank truck traffic through the city and on the CCC bridge would skyrocket.
They'd need to majorly upgrade 90 and 3127 for something around Chalmette to work.

The people of St. Bernard did not vote for Edwards and now his cronies come in a take over part of the parish
Oof.
2019 runoff JBE had 54% of the vote over Rispone.

Sounds like a good place to add another 24hr donut shop.

I don't think they need to go that far. Just a two lane access road for trucks to get to Paris Ave. Don't put any exits anywhere in between. Hell make it trucks only like some of the roads around Port of Long Beach.
This port is going to be doing a bunch of transfers onto barges and rail. It's not going to generate a massive, unbearable amount of truck traffic like some other container ports.

Port NOLA has failed at the PR game big time. True or not it the optics make it look like the port is trying to cram this down the throats of the residents of St. Bernard.
Last year I spoke to folks involved with this project, they really thought they would be doing significant construction on-site by mid-2022. I always thought it could take a decade to get all of the approvals with opponents fighting every single step of the way and probably a LA Supreme Court decision or two. The State/Port will eventually win (unless a governor is elected that wants to shut down the project), but it will be a long, messy and EXPENSIVE fight.

1. HURRICANE EVACUATION
2. Judge Perez is starting to get clogged at rush hour now
3. HURRICANE EVACUATION
I hope it will be our version of Earhart expressway that connects to Paris Road and eventually I-10 in the city

That’s never going to happen. Those people are scattered and settled down in other places now.

St B Hwy is proposed to be bowed north... not eliminated. It might take a few more minutes to work around the bow.
But let's be real... very few people are just cruising down that stretch of road. Hardly anyone just happens upon the Green store... they have a purpose to go there and will still go there even if it takes a couple of min longer.
Or Farmsite Rd ends up seeing more traffic.

In the SOS group someone was ranting about a certain parish council member who owns donut shops being supportive of the port because truck drivers will stop at his donut shop.

And if they go down Judge Perez they never see it. That’s the problem.
That bow north will be unacceptable to a lot of people who question if we really need it

But they aren't just rolling down the road now anyways. No one is taking a romantic Sunday drive down there lol

But those people who will say we don't need it are the same people who say we don't need the port.
It's one more reason for them to be against the port.

Now try when he was actually elected, because no one in their right mind was voting for Phony Rispone.

St. Bernard is still down about almost 40% from its high water mark around the year 2000. So I doubt it's anywhere near as bad as it was then.

Right. I think our good schools, safe community, and relative low housing prices will result in a continued slow growth of the population. But it will take a long time to get back to that number, if we ever do, and it's different people who are moving here now. The people who left 16-17 years ago aren't coming back.
