Set in modern-day America, Bel-Air is a serialized one-hour dramatic analogue of the 90’s sitcom that leans into the original premise: Will’s complicated journey from?the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. As these two worlds collide, Will reckons with the power of second chances while navigating the conflicts, emotions, and biases of a world far different from the only one he’s ever known.

Jazz will get thrown out of the house only once, because the first time will fracture his cervical vertebrae and confine him to a wheelchair.

Doesn't look terrible.

Looks very "The OC".

Trailer looks ok, but I fear it will be overtly woke and suck arse.

So, Fresh Prince without the fun? The scene where they dress him up in the suit was the most disappointing from the trailer. I understand this isn't a remake but a reboot, but that was a great scene in the original pilot to show how Will has no idea what he is getting into. He has his hat on and pulls the cumber bun around his chest. In this one, the suit fits him perfectly and he looks natural.

I want to see more sitcoms reimagined like this. The Office, Cheers, Gligan's Island. The possibilities are endless.

Gligan's Island

Known Hollywood weirdo James Gunn wanted to reboot Gilligan's Island as a cannibalism survival horror, so little surprises me.

Cheers done like this would be very depressing. Take any of the individual characters' lives and imagine how it would actually play out without funny sitcom writers. I can't think of any of them that wouldn't be sad as hell.

Looks like it's missing the fun of the old sitcom. I'd give it a chance but it's not worth getting another streaming service for.

I could see Uncle Phil being absolutely intolerable in this.

It will be hard to tolerate someone who has "been kept down by the white man" while still being a lawyer/judge living in a damn mansion lmao

Who the frick wants there to be a dramatization of an all time great sitcom

Agree that the trailer doesn't look terrible, but I'm not sure how in I will be for Fresh Prince minus everything that made it fun.

Hopefully they at least try to make SOME parts of this funny and throw some jokes throughout here and there.

I love how basically the only white people were assholes. Where the hell is my man Cornflake?

Waiting on the Different Strokes reboot that has Phillip Drummond running a human trafficking ring.

He'll send Mrs Garrett to work as a Madame at a girls boarding school, showing them The Facts of Life.

In the gritty Family Matters reboot, Urkel will be a straight-up stalker of the Winslow family, and Judy will be his first victim.

if i remember correctly, uncle Phil acknowledged that he'd faced prejudice as well as being a part of civil rights movement back in the day, but also valued being a contributing member of society and being a present father in a two parent household.

honestly, Fresh Prince and Family Matters were a good indicator of where we were in the 90s. nothing by any means was perfect, but we had a whole ton of white folk tuning in to cohesive black families for entertainment and not thinking about it in terms of race. it was just entertainment.

I don’t know whether to consider this blasphemy or actually give it a shot. It look it has good production value, but without all the fun/goofiness of the original. Even though Fresh Prince was a sitcom it still had plenty of dramatic/emotional moments. I guess we’ll see.

i still to this day can't watch "how come he don't want me?" and not get teary eyed.

Will does the heavy lifting in that scene, but that f'ing silent bear hug from Phil gets me every time.

The guy who plays Carlton has a weird shaped skull. Like his hair don't start until halfway back his scalp.

I don't know if I can watch that. Its uncomfortable looking.

Hard pass from me, dawg. Why does everything have to be so depressingly hyper “realistic” with weighty melodrama these days?
