What y'all think?.. Ride bike to within 200 yards and walk to stand.. or walk a mile to stand leaving bike at camp? Noise of bike worse than human scent?
Thanks and stay warm

Park and walk, spray clothes and boots with sent killler…
You may be riding a bike within 30/40 feet of where deer are bedded down

I wonder about this to, I drive my truck because it's more quiet than the bike but still makes noise on the lease road. I turn off my main lights and use the fog lights only.
Cool or cold and no chance of rain I am inclined to walk further.
Hot and rain walk less.

Ride within a couple hundred yards and park where wind blowing scent away from where you expect the deer to be.

I have consistently watched deer pass within 15-20 yards of where I parked the Tacoma about 500 yards from my stand this year. They always seem to pass closer to the truck than my blind.
My observation from many years of hunting in Texas is that driving up in the ranch truck and they often didn’t pick their heads up, drive down the ranch road in any other vehicle they weren’t used to and they would haul arse. The best solution would seem to be our electric cart, but we can’t keep it running long enough to really prove it.

Maybe my place is different but I don’t have an issue riding close. The deer don’t spook from my SxS like they do if I’m walking.
Pulled up in a shooting lane last week and spread a sack of corn. Started to drive off and remembered I brought a camera. Got back off the buggy and walked 25 yards in the woods towards a tree that always has a scrape and jumped a buck that was bedded.
I’ve never walked to a stand or across a field and had the deer just watch me pass like they do when I’m on my SxS. My location is unique though so may not be the same everywhere

Either park the bike under the stand, or really far away. Have killed deer both ways. Decision is made based on weather, hangover severity, walk suckieness

Crappy answer but it depends on the situation. This morning I parked over 700 yards from the stand I hunted. The problem with walking that far is heat and sweat. Some places I might only park 100 yards from the stand.

I just drive my 4 wheeler straight to the stand and leave it there. Hasn’t prevented me from shooting deer over the years

I normally walk about two hundred yards. All the while smoking a cigarette, drink in hand and not spray cover scent. I do this going to a box stand, lock on or sitting on the ground. I usually kill 3-4 deer a year. I mean, I'm just saying.

It really doesn’t matter. I have parked 1/2 mile and walked in only to walk out and jump deer bedded 10yards from my bike. I have walked in and busted deer at my stand site, unless your a ninja you are not sneaking into a stand area undetected.
All that being said I don’t like having my bike closer than 300yd or so from where I’m hunting. In my mind I can just picture one time that a state record buck comes walking in and sees my bike and starts snorting and stomping. If my bike is 300yds away at least I won’t have to know that’s what kept me from killing him!!
And if you have the right place the best thing is to have some one slow roll to drop you off I have seen deer that will not move if a truck or bike never stops but if it stops they get antsy and bust out.

Yep. Their eyesight isn’t the best past 100 yards or so. They really don’t care if the woods has traffic as they live with it.
Bow hunting is a bit different I’d suppose.

I prefer to walk longer ways, but not because I’m worried about spooking deer near my stand. The whole time I’m walking, I’m hunting (other than headed in before daylight or after dark obviously.) I’m not walking in at a normal pace, but quietly slipping and stopping every 20yds or so (distance and speed will change with terrain/woods type) and scanning with my binoculars. I’ve killed a lot of deer before I ever reached where I was going and You’d be surprised at the deer you can walk right past otherwise.

I like to walk to my stand rather than 4 wheeler to it. In some cases I think it does spook less deer. But to be honest most hunts I park it right under the stand. The issue is having to walk through the sloppy black jack mud where we hunt. It slows you down, it makes you sweat, you sink in it, it forms a suction around your feet, and it is LOUD.

I get mixed results from reading online from these sames questions.
I've tried to figure out how far away I need to shite in the event I have to go. I had my colon removed years ago (involuntarily) and I have to be strategic on timing to make sure I can sit as long as possible, but every now and then you get in a bind. Leaves you trying to get away as far as you can in a hurry. Haha.
I park way away. Thebold gentlemen who's area I hunt now passed away. Hed drive his truck right up to the stand almost and still kill. Who knows.

The best is to walk. It keeps the property undisturbed. It’s good exercise and it’s much more quiet. Electric bike is second best.
How much does it really matter though? Not much.

rsbd, and everyone else. Don't mean to highjack the thread, but stop buying scent killer. You look stupid, it doesn't work period.

Thankfully for us, we have a lot of oil and gas contractors that cut through our ranch and it allows use to drive whatever we want and not have to worry about anything.
