Can’t wait to go - three rounds of golf already booked for May as well - hoping someone here has been - open to any tips or recommendations…

Did you buy this for your wife ( like Homer buying Marge a bowling ball) or did she buy for you? Either way great great gift.

Inn ad Woodlake or The American Club? We had dinner at the American club during the Stanley Cup playoffs in ‘15. Was fun.
Took a tour of the Kohler show room. That was cool as well

I don’t have any recommendations, but I’ll say I booked my trip here 2 yrs in advance (LSU/Wisconsin game 96).
I was worried I had built it up too much. It could not possibly live up to what my imagination had built.
It was everything and more. Best golf trip I’ve had (admittedly few). Hell, it was one of the best vacations I’ve ever had right up until kickoff.
Will definitely be going back someday.

Since you have family going I would stay in Sheboygan on Lake Michigan. We stayed at Blue Harbor in 2016 right on the lake and it was great. There are a few really good restaurants right there and other things to do as well.

The Irish course doesn't get much coverage but it is also incredibly fun.

Thanks for all the tips
No way I’m playing the tips - I’m hoping to survive with 2 dozen balls - will be fun to see the girls play - older one will probably go 5800-6000 younger one - 5200ish

The new par 3 course is awesome. Putting course is a lot of fun. The Meadows course is a distant 4th on property in my mind.
I stayed at the Inn on Woodlake, and it is good. The course is 20 minutes from the hotels. So don't expect an on-site experience. Caddies are very hit or miss but required on the Straits course

We did five rounds. Stayed at American Club. Walked Straits and Irish with caddy. Had Fore Caddy on River. Cart on meadow and Irish (played it twice).
Our caddy was very good. Requested him in second round booked with caddy and they gave him to us.
Fore Caddies are awesome. They help you on blind shots and putts plus find errant balls. Shot strategy. Ours did everything but carry bag. He just rode on back of cart.
We played two rounds a day except for one. Too tired to do anything else but golf. We loved every part of it. You meet caddy at practice range and they watch you hit all your clubs. You don’t see your bags except when you check in and then they just magically show up at every round.
Best trip ever.

Any caddy in particular you recommend? We have had some really good ones at the Ocean Course at Kiawah and a couple of really bad ones … especially with kids - I’m really sensitive to having a good caddy -
How exhausting was Whistling?

Really not that bad. The views distract you from the walk

Just a heads up, May might be a bit touch and go on the weather. I lived in Chicago for a good while and did more than one Wisconsin golf trip in May (Lawsonia, etc.), and it could be beautiful or it could be brutal (like in the 40's, windy, and wet).
That said, Whistling is one of the most fun places I've ever been to, golf or not. From worst to best:
- Meadows is fun (and a lot easier than the other 3) and has some interesting holes but can be skipped if you are crunched for time
- Irish is wildly underrated and is the course I had the most fun playing and is the first course I would choose to play twice if you can; tons of fun holes and shots and a damn challenging golf course while not being absurdly punishing
- River is one of the most difficult golf courses I've ever played in my life; the greens there in peak summer are just completely silly; it is, shot for shot, the most punishing course on the property; I've never played a course where triple was lurking so closely from 120 out on every hole
- Straits is just a spectacular piece of land and one of America's great golf courses; I actually found it more playable than similar caliber / style courses I've played elsewhere in the U.S. (e.g., Kiawah, Chambers, Torrey, etc.) and a touch more forgiving; it obviously isn't easy to score well there but other than a few specific holes (4, 8, 15, 17, 18), you can knock your ball around there and not expect huge number after huge number like you might on Blackwolf River, as an example

Rivers course is probably my favorite followed by straits and then Irish. Meadows is fairly bland by comparison

Ouch - never thought Mid May would be super dicey - will be praying for good weather - Thanks again for the report!

In Sheboygan, there’s a Neopllitan Pizza place called IL Ritrivo. Phenomenal.
