This. It's way too early to call him a bust.

Clemson runs a simplistic scheme so he was way behind the 8 ball when he got the league. He never played for a Kiffin, Sark, Brady level coach that implemented pro level passing concepts.

No they don’t. Clemson runs a bunch of what the jags run. Urban Meyer installed the offense and it’s really close to what osu did and Clemson did. Which is a bit of everything

It's almost like he's playing on one of the least talented teams in the NFL.

We didn’t give Urban Meyer a pass for this so Trevor shouldn’t get a pass either. Let’s be consistent here.

Lawerence has always been suspect. He struggles with being accurate. The media just massively hyped the kid since high school.

That’s one more TD than Trey Lance has since October. Trevor will be fine (once he is traded or his first contract runs out).

Uhhh, most of what they run is single read spread concepts, or under Meyer at UF it was spread option based. It’s why Justin Fields got sacked a lot at Ohio state when they played a defense with a pulse. It’s predicated on trying to scheme a guy open. A guy open.

The passing game in that scheme is more akin to a short, intermediate, or deep run play. You know where the ball is going based on the play call, now we need to move the pieces to optimize that guy getting into space to receive the ball.

Don’t get me wrong, that’s offensive football to an extent, but in that instance you have 3 or 4 pieces moving to create space for one. When it doesn’t work the play breaks down. There’s a tendency to either wait for the first read or force it when it really isn’t there. It’s not a levels concept offense where you work deep to short. In that style, one of the 3 is going to be open depending on what the defense is doing. It’s up to the QB to process that and get it to the right guy. It’s not going to break down unless the defense does a perfect job or the QB makes the wrong decision or a bad throw. Lawrence ain’t walking up to the line and thinking Shenault is my read here but if that’s covered then by default Arnold’s route is clearing space for Chark on the backside. It’s just not what he’s used to doing. It’s hard as hell for college QBs that played with pro concepts because the defenses are soooo much different in their looks, but it’s a lot harder if processing is a new concept entirely. The game moves at the speed of light. You need to be freakishly athletic, freakishly accurate, or a freakishly fast processor to play high level QB in the NFL (or have an OC that is just really good at single read play designs)

I think Herbert was the same type of player. He’s gotten a lot better at processing what’s going on but I still don’t think it’s natural even for him, he just has better weapons and a better play caller. Burrow is an example of a young QB that has minimal issues reading a defense after the snap and it’s obvious. It’s natural. I love Hurts and Tua, but they aren’t fast processors either. With Jalen it’s one read or run, with Tua it’s one read but he usually throws with such rhythm and accuracy that he fits in in. It’s why you see him make wild or ill advised throws sometimes. He’d rather try to squeeze one in or heave up a prayer than actually process to his third or fourth read. He just can’t do it quickly enough with the time you’ve got in the NFL.

What? One is a coach who could do something about that while the other is a rookie. Urban has a lot more than blame about the situation than TL.

Other QBs in bad situations didn't look this bad. Kyler with the 2019 Cardinals was good. Burrow with 2020 Bengals. Both #1 overall picks drafted to teams just as bad the Jags. Hell, INJURED GARDNER MINSHEW ON THE 2020 JAGS LOOKED BETTER than T-LAW is right now. 2019 Minshew with the Jags was on another planet compared with Lawrence right now.

Yeah he has time to turn it around but I'm not afraid to say I think he's going to be the next Ryan Leaf.

Because Trevor has no hand in putting the team together.

New qb, new system, shitty coaching. He’s not Leaf but he may be on a similar career path as David Carr and the Texans.

Not saying none of this isn’t true but when this is brought up for Justin Fields everyone has a field day calling him a bust.

How many can’t miss QB’s are traded after their first contract? He was drafted to be the guy and he’s not that guy.

How would you expect him to look on an Urban Meyer coached team?
i would expect him to look good occasionally and he really hasn't other than that one game. not that i'm a great football mind or QB whisperer but he just doesn't look great to me.

he's been suspect to me since lsu beat him in 2019. trevor looked pretty mediocre against elite teams in college after his freshman year.

You want more Trevor Lawrence on your team, not less. His being mentored by Dabo along with his full acceptance of the Clemson Family Way is an extremely valuable commodity that cannot be purchased or learned by any means other than attending Clemson University. The owner should go AllIn on more Clemson players through trades and draft. I firmly believe Gruden was trying to copy Dabo at Las Vegas before the woke mob cancelled him. #whiteboyrenfrow

Trevor Lawrence is Ryan Leaf level bust.
Leaf wasn't #1

Better comparison is JaMarcus, or Tim Couch.

Biggest bust ever, has to be Trent Richardson. 2 teams gave up 1st round choices to get him.

It's why Clemson gave 2 spots on the Clemson football team to Kirk Herbstreit's children. They believed that they could hype the tranny to a Heisman. That South Carolina George Rogers Heisman that nobody cares about, drives Clemson people insane(er).
