Thinking about pulling the trigger on a Panerai. Either the 1312 or 1661. Any owners on here that have any thoughts on the brand?
Tired of of the Rolex waiting game and I refuse to enrich these grey market dealers. Closest boutique is Houston so I may just buy without seeing the watch in person.
1312:
1661:
TIA

1312 pic not coming through. It clearly has shite 5G service. Go with the 1661.

I like mine, stayed classy and value has held up over the years. Still prefer the Rolex for every day use as the panerai face is a little larger.

The latest trinket I'm hankering for is a Vietnam era Zodiac Sea Wolf like this one. Depending on condition you can pick one up for $500-$5K

Your phone has a clock, dweeb. And wearing watches makes your fat arm look like a bratwurst.

Their bread is overrated.

I will refrain from saying anything mean about Panerai. I'll only say I don't like how they look.

How big is your wrist? The cases are pretty large, but don’t typically wear as big as their dimensions say (short lugs). However, most of them would still probably look ridiculous on my wrist (6.25 inches).

They are beautiful. You don’t need to see in person to buy. To me, the strap is what you need to really key in on with a Panerai depending on the look you are going for.
My buddy has one it’s about the only brand in that range I haven’t owned at some time or another. Got out the watch game 6-7 years ago. Too addicting and way too much money.
I had no idea Subs were going for so much right now. How much would my 03 made, sold new in 07, Sea Dweller go for right now on secondary? Not the DSSD, just Sea Dweller on Oyster Bracelet. Guess I’ll have to check out watch recon to see. Interesting.

Watch threads are some of my favorite OT threads.

no real experience with those particular pieces but I have owned a 111 since 2009. Solid piece, never had any issues. As far as value retention it's been ok because I bought it right in the peak of the recession.

Have owned: 0048 (traded for an IWC flieger chrono 3717), 0116 (sold), 0111 (one with applied numeral dial, one with sandwich dial - both sold) 0164 (still have, would be happy to dump) and 0183 (still have, will most likely keep, though I never wear). If I could have one back out of the list it would be the 116 (Titanium case w/ tobacco dial - easily my favorite out of the old Luminor models).
I favor the newer 42 mm "1950" style cases over the old blockier 44 mm ones, and would consider wearing one of those. I didn't read this whole thread, but I'm sure there are people on here telling you to not pay retail. The value holding on these stinks right now, so unless you are sure you'll love it forever, get one that someone has decided wasn't right for them.
I like a smaller watch than an Panny - 5 digit rolex sports models are the perfect size on my wrist. I also generally prefer bracelets as opposed to leather bands. Over my 30 some years of screwing around with watches, I've moved from my only premium watch being a Sub date to IWC/Omega/Panerai/JLC heavy, back to Rolex centric (including Tudor). They are classic, steady, and just what I like. I do hate the way things have gone with acquisition, but I'm fortunate enough to have an in with two AD's, though I'm not really in the market. I think the grey market prices are insane, and I hate where that whole deal is now.
