For the record, every supplier has shortages right now and brands can't just "go across the street" bc of brand standards that don't allow you (by contract)to get it from another place. Legally speaking.

Ok Karen.
Many examples listed are from long ago, and include ketchup, napkins and ice.
But sorry Sysco was late with your Cajun fries.

Years ago, went thru KFC drive thru on a Saturday evening when I was informed that they were out of chicken.
This was before they had tenders, bowls, sandwiches, etc. on the menu. It was just chicken and sides...and they were out of chicken.
Why were they still open? No one wants just their sides.
The next time I went thru their drive thru, I ordered a hamburger. "Sir, we don't have hamburgers here". "Well, last time I was here, you didn't have chicken either"

Employees. Went to Taco Bell on Airline and McDonalds on Clearview a few years ago and they didn't have the staff to run the place. This was obviously before Covid.

I stopped in my local Dunkin Donuts yesterday, and they had about 8 empty racks, and a handful of donuts I don't like. How the hell can Dunkin Donuts be out of old-fashioned donuts?

All the fatties and Karens in here asking why XYZ chain restaurant can’t go next door to the grocery store don’t realize how much shite comes pre-packaged and premade. The workers literally nuke most of what you’d eat at a Chili’s or Wendy’s or whatever.
Even if the workers did know how to make the food from scratch, i guarantee the head office’s legal and HR department would flip out if one of their employees went rogue and started cooking whatever. “Who cares if the customers were happy? We have policies and mandates and rules and procedures!”

Earlier this year in Destin I went to an "Oyster House" that was out of oysters.
'Oh, everybody's out, there's no oysters in Destin, supply issue blah blah"
Next night at another restaurant, they had oysters.

yeah for entree ingredients, but when we're talking about Ketchup and little shite, I have personally worked at restaurants, plural, where we ran out of something like that due to ice machine broke, or supplier fricked up, and ran across the street to a grocery store for little stuff, often. There's no excuse to be out of sugar, out of ketchup, out of napkins, out of ice.

Seafood restaurants having raw oysters, but not baked ones.
Only guess there is that they were short staffed on cooks.

Cowboy Chicken was out of chicken...during lunch time.
The manager was all out of fricks to give. And certainly not a chicken frick.

Never had the Milky Way pie at Sammy’s in BR bc the several times I went, they were out
Also, one time I went to the Serrano’s by lsu (when it was there) and they were out of the cilantro rice, grilled chicken, and the brownie I had wanted for dessert

A Burger King had zero burgers, October 1998.
Same thing happened to me, Burger King had no whoppers. I got a chicken sandwich.
Different BK years later, I ordered a whopper and the girl told me they were out. I was like "damn, you serious?" She said "No! This is the home of the whopper! How could we be out of whoppers?!" Good question.

We aren't talking about extravagant, special order type items. Most of the examples are simple items that any local grocery store would carry: Ketchup, buns, pasta, even hamburger patties. If you are so shitty of a manager that you won't even walk next door to buy ketchup or buns, rather than wait on the Sysco truck next week then you suck.
That’s fine for small scale operations and locally owned, but it becomes a problem with licensing deals, corporate owned, and franchised locations. There are legitimate penalties involved. It’s dumb, but that is the world we live in.

Can verify. I saw that Cafe du Monde back around 99-2000 on the way home from Okinawa. Was excited for a cafe Au lait and beignets but not a one to be found.

When i worked in the restaurant, we would send a bus boy across the street to home depot because we were out of felopian tubes.
