cos I was never gonna get off that island. I was gonna die there, totally alone. I was gonna get sick, or get injured or something. The only choice I had, the only thing I could control was when, and how, and where it was going to happen. So... I made a rope and I went up to the summit, to hang myself. I had to test it, you know? Of course. You know me. And the weight of the log, snapped the limb of the tree, so I-I - , I couldn't even kill myself the way I wanted to. I had power over *nothing*. And that's when this feeling came over me like a warm blanket. I knew, somehow, that I had to stay alive. Somehow. I had to keep breathing. Even though there was no reason to hope. And all my logic said that I would never see this place again. So that's what I did. I stayed alive. I kept breathing. And one day my logic was proven all wrong because the tide came in, and gave me a sail. And now, here I am. I'm back. In Memphis, talking to you. I have ice in my glass... And I've lost her all over again. I'm so sad that I don't have Kelly. But I'm so grateful that she was with me on that island. And I know what I have to do now. I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?”

Think of your kids, your mom and dad, siblings, a good friend(s)....think of GOD. He wants your voice of salvation. Hold!! I'm trying too.

The holidays can be especially tough. Honestly, this thread made me feel good once I read through the replies and saw all the people who stepped up. I hope you took fr33 and other posters up on their offers and were able to make some lasting connections and get your little girl something for Christmas. I hope you’re feeling better and that you find a new job that gives you even more to live for.

Get a therapist, their job is to be vented to. Therapy has been the best decision I’ve made these past few months while dealing with some really awful personal shite in my life.

Been there and there wasn't much of me to like but I did love myself just enough to hang around.

With a bit of help and a re-ordering of self and priorities - grateful I am still around. Yes, no question others are essential for healthy well-being but please locate your misperception of self and get well.

Bumping this so others can help lead you to where you need to go and be.

Get help brother, we all make horrible decisions that can lead to a valley that is only temporary but very difficult.

Not everyone is going to like you, but regardless you are special to a higher power. Fight the fight and don't quit. You are more special than you could every possibly know both to your daughter and more importantly your creator who has eternity of grace awaiting.

Please get the help you need both for yourself and for your life in your daughter.

You are a worth it.

If that’s where drinking brings you, find another outlet. Purpose takes many forms, get some hobbies and projects going.

Weird copying and quoting one number. I just wanna say, my entire life has been making big mistakes. My kids and wife still love me and even if there was a divorce there’s so much to keep going for. As long as you love your daughter and do your best any mistake you make is just a speed bump. Don’t worry about what people think of you, just enjoy the small shite. Financial mistakes, work mistakes, family mistakes, friends, hunting, fishing, checking the mail, driving, I’ve fricked it all up. Who cares, financial stuff start being conservative like I had to do and don’t take big risk. Everything else is just life.

Eta: If you can’t stop drinking do like I do, buy a half pint for each day and drink no more than that.

You are about to hit a magical time of fatherhood and there is no better time of the year. I have 4 and 5 yo girls. What an incredible time. Over the last 2 years, COVID driven, I have learned what makes me happy in life. Its not money or being successful, keeping up with Joneses, impressing people, etc. Its my girls.

You have already mentioned in this thread about drinking. I challenge you to a 30 day no drinking challenge. Fill your usual drinking situations with time with your girl. When she's asleep, spend time making plans with her... go sign up for library card and experience the library, go see Christmas lights at zoo, plan an art and craft things like making ornaments, etc

Okay OT

This is the part where we make a 3 year old girl have a big smile while she hugs her daddy and gives him some of the best love in the world Christmas morning
