NIL doesn’t mean schools can pay players, so what are you people talking about?

LSU cannot compete in the money war

Comparing money donated and raised by alumni ? A&M is tops in the country, they even raise more money than Texas.
Here's a crazy A&M financial statistic. From 2012 to 2021 (9 years), former students, alumni, corporations, and anonymous givers donated $4.25 BILLION to the A&M higher education campaign. Since joining the SEC and Manziel winning the Heisman, no telling how much money was donated specifically for the sports programs.
FWIW, The Louisiana State University System had an endowment of $955 million in 2020.

The contracts are not with the schools.
But the ADs who set up the money networks between donors and players dominated this cycle.
LSU was not equipped to play in the new environment, although the transition to a new coaching staff put us at a disadvantage from the jump.
Players were paid under the old regime, but it was an inefficient market, because the rules prohibited it.
It’s wide open now, and it’s more of a bidding war.
Eventually, even Bama will find it hard to keep up in the new environment, unless rules are imposed.

NIL isn't going to look the same in a couple years. Schools will corroborate to setup guidelines and level the playing field somewhat. It won't become schools buying championships but it's going to be important and schools will need to adapt. It won't be 100% about money even though money will be part of it. We're in NIL infancy, expect it to change a lot.

With all this money sloshing around, who gives a frick about championships other than fans. Under NIL you getting paid no matter what.

There will have to be some rules promulgated, and soon. Even the ones currently benefiting know the wild west scenario is untenable for everybody

for 2019 (the most recent I can find) here is the total revenues...
12th Man Foundation: $55.9 mmUSD 2019 Form 990
Tiger Athletic Foundation: $65.3 mmUSD
Assuming that the vast majority of that represents "booster money", which will fuel NIL deals...
Yes. We can compete. We should be winning. The only thing holding us back is the school; not the boosters.

Just stop. LSU makes over 50 million on football. If 40 guys make 100,000 a year ( way more than is being discussed) that’s only 4M. You just have to be creative in figuring out how to get it to them !!!

Those numbers are completely bogus and if you apply any sort of scrutiny you see that the A&M AD financials are a house of cards, just like their donation pledge info.
Does A&M have donors, sure? Are they even close to what Texas or some of the other big name schools out there can put on the table, no.
Can A&M throw out cash, sure. Do they have the potential of backing their NIL campaign at an organized level, such as something like NIKE, or Under Armour, or Dell?, No.

Simply......no

LSU makes enough and has enough big donors to stay top 5
Let’s see.
Alabama
UGA
Texas
Texas A&M
Oregon
Florida
USC
Boone Pickens University
Michigan
Ohio state
If you’re talking strictly money. Then with the new NIL crap, LSU won’t be top 5.

Right now college football is a free for all, buy yourself a team, no limits type of scenario bc it got put in place with zero oversight.
Within a few years it’ll be like any professional sport right now with garranteed money through the university, and endorsement deals on the side.
It is the end of college sports as we know it. The thousand dollar handshake, Dodge Charger deals are done. Now it’s out in the open, and no holds barred.

Pickens is in the ground and his estate is going to backing Ok St like they were when he was alive.
The schools that might surprise people are going to be some of the ACC schools that have alumni from the medical research area (Miami is one of them) and the NE.
I have always been of the mind that the NIL will hurt the SEC the most because the SEC had the local location which brought in trust when doing the bagman game.
Now that the NIL will be open to the eyes of everyone, relationships plus the NIL will cement these deals. The location aspect will lessen and so many schools that could do a small level payout for a mid level 4 star won’t be as easy and many kids may just go ahead and leave the south for guranteed money on the up and up.
What I am really interested in is how this new world impact the current gate keepers of access to HS kids. How does this impact the kickbacks that go to the HS coaches, trainers, “uncles”, and churches that have been the conduit to many of these kids that were looking for a payout.

$4.25B in donations is bogus ?
My post with facts apparently went right over your head. A&M raised $4+ BILLION for higher education. There is no telling how much $$ was donated or funneled under the table for athletics. It’s 100% obvious based on this year’s recruiting class that A&M is spending insane amounts of money structured through NIL deals.

Capitalism will fix the capitalism that you fear. While many can play in 22 positions, offense and defense, playing time and development will generate a cap to what appears to be untethered of NIL/transfer portal.
Besides, who says NIL is limited only to University's alum? If a good deal exists for a non-LSU related business anywhere in the world, why not entice/pursue it?

Hasty post above...so let me make it better
Capitalism will fix the capitalism that you fear. While many can play in 22 positions, offense and defense, players' playing time and NFL development will be value of a deal, not just NIL $. Therefore, there are other limiting factors to this model; it is not just untethered of NIL/transfer portal. The systems has other limits. How efficient is your program in those other areas will matter.
