What I am really interested in is how this new world impact the current gate keepers of access to HS kids. How does this impact the kickbacks that go to the HS coaches, trainers, “uncles”, and churches that have been the conduit to many of these kids that were looking for a payout.
Point of fact: A booster could give a player a NIL deal to advertise for his [former] high school... making those high school coaches very happy. Burn the candle from both ends so to speak. I'm sure that would pay dividends in the future.

Guy above citied college overall revenue. We're talking strictly booster money with NIL deals. So overall school money (tuition, fees, academic endowments, etc.) is not a factor because it can't be "laundered" to give to a player via NIL. Has to come from outside, and that means boosters. So have to look at booster foundations to know how competitive we are.

I say to hell with it. Firstly, TAF is a 501c3. So pay players to advertise for TAF, which will bring in more money to pay players. It's a win-win! And how shall we do this? Put money bands on 10k bundles with a TAF in geaux font letting and shoot them at recruits with a t-shirt cannon.

This is all going to work itself out. How many of those top recruits flame out? A ton. These boosters aren’t going to keep throwing money in the toilet.

If Jimbo isn’t in the playoffs in 2-3 years what do you think those boosters will do? Will they have wide open wallets with zero return on their initial investment?

We’ll see I guess.

It does seem A&M is desperate for a title and will throw around crazy money to try to get one. It may not work out. See UGA who’s doing the exact same thing. May not work out

Think so? Have been doing it for years. It's just on the table instead of under it now.

I really can't follow that logic.

Paid for buying out Les. Paying for buying out Orgeron. Pay for planes and other modes of transport. Pay for all kinds of things... including so-called benefits to recruits. And have been doing it for a long time now.

People keep talking about "return on investment" and I keep asking exactly what metric that is and never get an answer.

Let me clue y'all in on something- the investment is the recruit and the return is getting them enrolled. And that's where it ends. That's what boosters are paying for- to buy the recruit (high school and portal). Nothing more. So A&M did see a great return on investment, they have the #1 class.

Aggies got their first big signing class ever and at the worst time. Check back after season one and see how many are in the transfer portal when they find out they can't all start and then after year 2 when they know they aren't going to start. Signing day means nothing anymore.

Wrong. If money is the only thing that matters places like USC, Texas, TAMU, etc. wouldn't be shite holes for decades now. There's more than just money to get to championships. What TAMU is doing is not sustainable and it's promoting a cancer culture that will eat them alive from within. You think boosters are just going to funnel millions and see no returns in their money? I don't care how much money they wipe their arse with rich like their money and don't like seeing it disappear. Unless they can find a scheme to NIL and make money on those recruits they're not just going to keep buying every 5* recruit on the market. I don't care how much money they have. When the locker room collapses in 1 year and half those players are on the transfer portal stealing their money they'll find out the hard way it's not sustainable while losing money.

This is not new buying recruits off. It has been happening forever. The only difference now is it's easier to do it in the open and a select few are spending crazy money right now. LSU is not a new kid on the block. LSU is not going to fall behind because none of this is new to them and neither is it to the money universities. Eventually this NIL stuff will level itself off. Give it time.

We can’t compete now. But this will be reigned in and limits will be set. May take a few years, but no way it continues down this path.

You and the other but-hurt Snowflakes on this board who constantly have found something to bitch about as we’ve won 3 National Titles in 19 years are are son profoundly ignorant that it is truly amazing!

Here’s a fact Jackass, while some of LSU’s “rivals” have ALWAYS had more money, like FLORIDA and A$M, most of the others really don’t. More importantly, it’s a question of who’s made and will realize the greater benefit of the money they spend.

Texas, FLORIDA and USC have always had deep pockets and never shied away from spending for decades. The end results in the past 25-30 years have amounted to Dick!

A&M has spent money like a drunk sailor since joining the SEC and have nothing to show for it!

But most likely importantly, is the constant mischaracterizations about BAMA’s ultimate financial ability! First, BAMA does not have a larger alumni base, and definitely not a more affluent one. Truthfully, we’re very similar and have been able to depend on our respective supporters to step-up at much greater levels than many schools over the last couple of decades! Unfortunately, the difference has been Saban!

Also, even though many of you are either too clueless or too deluded to realize, both programs, as well as most programs, have always paid players! And honestly, we’ve always adapted how that is done as the rules and enforcement has evolved! That’s not about to change now!

But biggest of all is the defeatist, hang wringing, bed wetting response you pu$$ies always offer! “Oh no! It’s over! We can’t compete!”

Yes, Texas has more money than almost every other school! But this isn’t the MLB and they aren’t Steinbrenner’s Yankees!

The truth is that SEC and NCAA football is a massive money making machine! Do you honestly believe that the folks in New York, Bristol and L.A. who are funding this industry and who ultimately profit the most from it are going to kill the golden goose?!! They lose billions if a few wealthy schools, scattered across 4 time zone, suddenly have all the damn marbles because there would be zero competition AND THEN PEOPLE CHANGE THE CHANNEL! Just like in with MLB and the NHL!

We are in the current, short-term talent situation because of Orgeron and the subsequent coaching change! Not because NIL has forever altered the landscape of college football! We have the money and the right people calling the shots to deal with NIL and are already in the process of doing so! I’m fact, by the conclusion of the February 2023 signing date (15 months away) these doomsday, end of the world predictions by guys like you will be laughed at!

Go find something else to complain about!

Hell yes we can compete in a money war. Bring it on. The powers that be seem to be just a little slow in recognizing what is happening but we will be fine.

The number one recruit in the country this year signed with Jackson State over Florida State. If JSU can figure it out LSU can too.

Not with the first tier teams. Our strategy should be to pay LA players and a QB then grab good portal players to fill lineup gaps. Different world and our biggest advantage as being the sole instate school has just been rendered close to meaningless.

I love the fact some think collegiate money will be the end all be all! There is still getting to league for the real money! Nil will play huge role but don’t think Harvard will now be stealing players from Sec

This too shall pass. Imagine how pissed donors will be when they pay for a team full of ego-driven, money grubbing athletes who are all jealous of each other's NIL deals and the team can't jell and end up 7-5? It's going to topple under its own weight, eventually, and the NCAA will be called before congress to put a stop to the nonsense.

Remember when shady dealing was just that? It wasn't the norm and teams could face sanctions? SMU must be pissed right about now, but that school has big money alumni who can afford to pay for five-star athletes as well as anyone. If they want to.

Woodward was napping in the duck blind whilst Bama, Tam and UT were building the infrastructure to exploit NIL. LSUs lagging has cost them 5 years

This.
The money does not come from the schools, but the AD's are going to have to show the boosters how it works, why it is essential, sell it to boosters to create the resources necessary to make it work, and, likely, monitor it to see that nothing improper happens.
There's every indication Texas, Ga., Bama and TAM had their act together on this from the jump.

LSU paid Ed O $17 mill. and bought a billboard in Times Square...

No reason to believe LSU can run in this crowd. We'll always have 2019.
