As states across the Midwest and South pick up the pieces after a spate of tornadoes believed to have killed dozens of people, the top US emergency management official warned Sunday that such cataclysms will be the “new normal.”

“The effects we are seeing of climate change are the crisis of our generation,” FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell told CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Criswell added that while it was “not unusual” for tornadoes to strike in December, “at this magnitude, I don’t think we have ever seen one this late in the year.”

“Even the severity and the amount of time this tornado or these tornadoes spent on the ground is unprecedented,” she said.

Biden told reporters that the “intensity of weather across the board” was a consequence of climate change, but acknowledged that “the specific impact on these specific storms, I can’t say at this point.”

“The fact is that we all know everything is more intense when the climate is warming — everything,” said the president. “And obviously, it has some impact here, but I can’t give you a — a qualitative read on that.”

Biden was scheduled to receive a briefing later Monday morning from Criswell and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, both of whom flew to Kentucky on Sunday to assess the storm damage.

“I think that there is a lot that we need to do as a nation,” Criswell said. “You know, there’s going to be a lot to learn from this event and the events that we saw through the summer. We’re seeing more intense storms, severe weather, whether it’s hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires. And one of the focuses my agency is going to have is, how can we start to reduce the impacts of these events as they continue to grow?”

The myth about storms being more frequent and/or stronger gets disproven every hurricane season by hard data. Why do they keep repeating it?

Remember, it was just 40-50 years ago we were expected to be living in an ice age now according to "science"

There is a thread that has numerous instances showing she's either ignorant or a liar.

The President got on tv after the tornadoes and talked about how this is happening because of climate change. I know he is a complete shitbag but maybe wait a press conference or two to spin your bullshite agenda

I stopped eating meat and killed all of my cattle. Now my family and I graze the pastures instead of the cattle.

I really wish some of our elected officials would stop perpetuating this ‘climate change’ hoax

I mean, it's pretty easy to backup any argument you try to make when you claim the proof is literally "everything."

Rain? Climate change.

Drought? Climate change.

Hot? Climate change.

Cold? Climate change.

If you believe climate changing is causing everything to be more intense OK, but if you think us as humans are going to stop it in any way we'll bless your heart.

Wrong. December 16, 2000 - F-4 tornado hits just south of Tuscaloosa, AL, killing 11 people. Here's an image from that day (the girl lived, but her father and 15 month-old brother were killed):

“Even the severity and the amount of time this tornado or these tornadoes spent on the ground is unprecedented,” she said.

Wrong again. The current record-holder for tornado with the longest continuous path occurred in March of 1925. That record may have been broken by this one, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

Also, this isn't the first violent tornado, and it certainly won't be the last. It won't be the last one to happen in December (or January or February) either.

Democrats doubling down on issues that the American people DGAF about. If you look at polling data the #1 issue Americans across all demographics are concerned with is Inflation/Economy. But no, what we actually need, per politicians, is further government intrusion via policy over something we can’t change. Yay!
