Best couch I ever owned was a shitty green cloth one that I got for free when I was single cause it was left by the previous renters in the house. That cheap POS was so comfortable and held up well. That thing saw so much action. It was disgusting though, when me and the SO bought this house she made me get rid of it. It was tough to part with. So many memories

this era of people do not want to pay for quality.
A lot of it is our culture has changed to just throw things out when they break. So goods get made cheaply and we toss them and buy new stuff.
People used to actually fix appliances, could do woodwork and repair furniture or built their own new furniture. Hell people used to get shoes resoled. Nobody does that shite anymore and few even know how. Funny thing is a fridge or washer will go out and 95% of people will spend 1500 on a new one. When you could spend 75 bucks to fix it because it’s usually simple

glad I bought mine 20 years ago - that's crazy
The bedroom stuff was ordered from a luxury place it was top of the line. SO inherited a lot of money and first thing she did was pay the house off and buy all new nice furniture. I’m not complaining

Pottery Barn is good too
Is this true? I have no idea but pottery barn would be the last place I’d have considered

Pretty much. I just scored some nice furniture from one of my job sites. Old man passed away earlier this year and the family doesn't want to keep any of the furniture. All very well made with real wood. Sofas, dining room table, china cabinet, some end tables, dresser and a desk. All still have the original delivery tickets from 1974.

I just dropped over $3000 today for a leather couch/love seat combo.
Fingers crossed.

If I remember right furniture is one of the highest markups there is. It’s a crazy margin but can’t remember exactly what it is. Don’t feel bad, if you own a sofa, recliner, whatever you paid at least 4xs what it’s worth.

I got a quality couch about 17 years ago from Doerr furniture. Back then it was about a $2500ish, more then I probably should have spent at the time but I wanted something well made. Still have it, and looks like it’s new to this day. I also shared it with a Basset hound for 13 years till she was to old to jump that high
I believe it was a Flexsteel with aniline leather. When I die I want to be buried with it.

Yep. Pottery Barn Furniture is good. It's a bit expensive but lasts. We bought a kids bedroom set from there. The Crib converted to bed, changing station to dresser and all that snazzy shite so the kid could use it for a long time. It's lasted 16 years and was passed on to a little sibling who will use it for about 5 more years.

Ethan Allen was ok. But don't fall for the American Made tag line. everything is made overseas, they just assemble it here so they can call it American Made. Plus, some of their wood choices were hit and miss.
This is just flat out false. Many stateside manufacturers are completely made here. Four Seasons furniture is probably your best bet for price and quality combination.
Their frames, coils, and slip overs are manufactured here in the states and the quality is great. The only item they source overseas is the fabric. And that’s not a bad thing.
ETA expect to pay at least twice what you paid though.

I was specifically referring to the Ethan Allen brand. When we would have to replace individual pieces, like a table leg, the individual pieces always said "manufactured in 'insert Asian country'"
edit: and this was true of everything. Many pieces were labeled as "Assembled in US, manufactured in "Asian Country". But they advertised as American Made.
I was the driver on 2 Ethan Allen specific delivery routes. Monday I would leave Bham and drive to Arkansas, would get back on Wednesday, and then go to Mississippi on Thursday and Friday.
