Examining Raymond’s LSU tenure

Opponents yards per pass attempt with Raymond at LSU:
2012-15th
2013- 32nd
2014- 3rd
2015- 27th
2016- 17th
2017- 24th
2018- 8th
2019- 20th
2020- 124th
2021- 58th
Average of 33rd nationally.
Not all is on Raymond. Pass rush, DC, injuries, etc play a role. But he is not an elite DB coach, he simply isn’t. Elite recruiter, yes.
I don’t want to lose Raymond, not at all. But this DBU mythology outweighs actual on field results.

Especially when you consider the amount of talent we have at CB in the nfl. The DBU monicker was here before Raymond and it’ll be here after Raymond. The Louisiana athletes will make any CB coaches job easier.

And with top 3 most talented DBs every single year… yeah it’s not impressive.

I obviously haven’t looked this up but is there a DB coach who has averaged better than 33rd over the last 10 years?

Was coming to post same thing. To help your stats out.
Pass yards per game against
2019-54th
2020- last in country
2021- 68th
Tell me why we are crying for losing this guy again?????? Because he’s a good bag man?????? Pfft.

I have no idea
Point is, there isn’t a single coach that isn’t replaceable. If we kept track of assistants who this board deemed irreplaceable over the years, the list would be long.

There is a lot more than what Raymond that goes into those stats. Stuff like QB hurries and knockdowns play a factor in the OPP. He has single handedly recruited and developed an entire NFL DB room that was all pro. Some of y’all are wack. He’s was solid af.

Ron cooper was the bigger loss.
Aranda brought in help for the guy.
Why am I supposed to melt over a dbs coach who couldn’t coach safeties?

Jesus Christ
So much reaching to explain this away as no big deal by so many on this board
Losing Raymond to Florida is all fricking downside

Why did Aranda bring in a safeties coach?

Recruiting
Consistency
And he went to UF, who we play annually. He will be trying to poach Louisiana talent

Data is reaching? Duly noted.

Data that you yourself refuted in your own post by providing additional detail.
End of the day BK shouldn’t have let Raymond walk. Especially to UF.

The better question is why did he get recruited to UF?
The answer is simple. Recruiting in Louisiana

Name them. Cooper recruited and developed most of our all-pro DBs
Raymond has Adams and White. That’s it

I didn’t refute anything. I added context to be fair, because I don’t hate Raymond and I’m not happy he’s leaving. I’m not coming at this with any bias.
But let’s be subjective, when was the last LSU secondary that you would consider elite? Stats say 3 years ago, what do you think?

Ron cooper notoriously hated recruiting. Louisiana talent makes recruiting DBs easy

Consistency
We have consistently sucked against the pass the last two years and our dbs have consistently quit over the last two years.
Also once again. He’s a DBs coach who Aranda didn’t trust to coach half of the defensive backs.

None of what I’ve said is related to him as a DB coach but rather to his ties to Louisiana high schools
But let’s not forget it’s been a weird two years with injuries as well

he is not an elite DB coach
You are an absolute moron if you believe this. We have more DBs in the NFL than any school in the country.
