It wasn't fraud, it was calculated money laundering at extremely high levels.

I thought fraud didn’t happen?
But best part about this is, businesses pay that tax. You know, muh fair share.

PPP saved my arse. I have business owner friends whose PPP saved their arse. I have others whose PPP was more like a Christmas bonus. I don’t have any problems with that.
So you were duped?
Emergency overblown.
Businesses shut down via fiat.
You sit on your hands.
Government takes other people’s money and gives it to you.
Profit?
The entire thing is fraudulent.
But I’m glad there were people that could be taxed to “save your arse”.
Congrats.

Probably more than $87 billion. My good friend received $250k from the PPP and admits he didn’t really need it but with the help of his accountant his small 3 man HVAC company qualified……he remodeled his house with the money.
Whether he “needed” it or not, if it was valid and legal, who has a problem with it?

If you needed the PPP money I have no issue with you receiving the assistance but you're missing my point. There were a lot of small business owners who received PPP money that were not suffering from economic loss due to the pandemic but they worked within the accounting laws to show their quarterly revenue was being impacted and they qualified....they worked the system, it wasn't illegal but it was unethical. Those trillions of dollars handed out over the past 18 months are going to haunt the average American with surging inflation for years to come and we will all ask at some point was the hundreds of billions of helicopter money that was given to a lot of people who really didn't need it worth the inflation? We have to be honest and realistic.....ain't nothing free and inflation running at +10% is proving my point.

I did O&G work for several years under my own LLC. When oil went belly up last year, I chose to exit the industry altogether and start a different career. It was a scary 6 months for me financially.
I feel like a fricking moron knowing that I could have just grifted the government instead of taking responsibility for myself.

A high percentage of government/taxpayers giveaways is fraud. My niece works at the local food stamp office and says 65 percent of the giveaways are fraud

I know HVAC companies that were not hurting at all-- fire people down to 48 employees and got a million. If you look at the list I posted, every type of company known applied.

Just wait til they start writing checks on the infrastructure bill……..and then, maybe, the second infrastructure bill.

This Biden Administration is leaking money like a broken main water line in NYC. A feeding frenzy.

at least 10% was estimated to be paid “improperly, with a significant portion attributable to fraud.”
This means that at least $87 billion was lost to fraud

No worries, Uncle Joe says it won't cost anything.

I'm going to get downvoted to oblivion on this, but much of these federal handouts happened under Trump's watch.
Last time I checked, our Congress was still in charge of our countries purse-strings.

I know someone who falsely claimed unemployment and the IRS is on his arse now.
Posted on 12/4/21 at 11:48 pm to cajunangelle
Don’t people have to pay it back though?

What compelled people to do this? I wouldn’t do something like this.

My first thought was "only 10%?"...then I remembered...it's probably the government doing the estimating.
I wonder what the real number is.

After the great flood a few years ago, the state was offering emergency SNAP benefits to those who had houses flooded.
I was told the in Union Parish, there were 500ish flooded dwellings.
3000 emergency SNAP cards were issued.
