If BI and CJ can't lead this team to .500 or better post ASB

Is it time for a significant shakeup in the offseason? I'm not saying they can't or won't, but part of the reason we've built this roster this way is because in theory having over half of the salary cap tied up in BI and CJ should give you enough to tread water if Zion is out.
As much as people are complaining about Willie right now, and I've already said they need to bring in an OC in the offseason, it feels like who really needs to step up over this end of the season stretch is BI and CJ.

I’ve been thinking about it since last and went back to a few old games but last year we ran a lot of double bigs with Jaxson JV Billy and Larry.
We seem to have legit left that in the rear view mirror and I don’t understand why currently.

Feels like Willie is doing that thing he’s done in the past and has a blind spot to scrappy journeyman vet wings that remind him of himself.
For instance I truly don’t understand how Josh Richardson is now starting. I was and am a big proponent of Josh, but it’s because he is a very good spark off the bench. Multiple teams have tried the Josh as starter experiment and the results are always lacking. In a pinch he’s solid, but it feels like Willie is doing the vet preferential treatment thing again that he started with Temple last season.
It was an especially odd lineup choice when Toronto is basically playing that tall ball style of basketball and we went smaller than them out the gate when that should be one of our strengths.

I believe so. If they can't tread water, either BI isn't as good as most of us think he is, or this team built for Zion doesn't fit him enough to stay afloat. I don't know if that means try and turn BI into another star level player or if you just go all in on complimenting Zion and see if you can swing a trade centered around BI for Mikal Bridges or Jaylen Brown. I'd lean toward Bridges/Brown and make the defense better.
To be fair we're just one game into the post ASB stretch, but I don't think many of us are feeling very confident about this team without Zion right now.

I'm ok with Richardson minutes but Herb getting more run than Trey is the issue.
I'm of the thought that after the All Star break it's time to go all in on winning and playoff seeding, and heck, just making the playoffs lol.
It's imo not the time to say Richardson is just a rental so he shouldn't get more minutes than Trey. Nah, the best dudes need to be out there. But Herb has become such a black hole on offense that I do think Trey should be getting some of those minutes.
But as of now, Richardson deserves those minutes over Herb and Trey.

Agree. Richardson proved to not be a viable starter with three prior teams.

The only issue is I believe we'd only get 1 more year, next season, of Claxton as without looking I don't think we'd be able to afford him and avoid being a yearly tax team.

Mikal is on a 4 year deal at 21m
Nic is on a 2 year deal @ 8.5 but I see him signing an extension in the 20m range.
Both are very affordable.

If I'm being completely objective, BI is Demar Derozan. A very good but not great player.
Derozan has never done shite in the playoffs.
Dudes who rely so much on the midrange are dinosaurs.
In today's NBA, perimeter-based players need to either be elite at getting to the basket like Ja or Anthony Richardson or high volume 3 point flame throwers. Look at Tatum and Brown and how many 3s they shoot.
I think BI could do that but for some reason he prefers fadeaway baseline jumpers.
Then you compound it with him being dinged so much and the fact that Zion is also always hurt.
We need a durable guy that can hit 3s and defend. Brown and Bridges do both.

NO, this is so stupid. Thats like saying the saints shouldve "shook things up" after 2008 cause they went 8-8 that year with a simalar roster that went to the nfc championship the year prior. be patient.

I've said this from the get go, and i love BI.
but if we can't compete for a championship with BI and Zion, then 1 or both of them aren't as good as we think they are. I think it's more that BI and CJ don't both fit with Zion b/c all 3 guys are below average defenders. One of CJ or BI needs to get swapped out with a star that can score and defend.
Since BI has come back he's averaging 4.3 TOV in his 10 games. It was 2.8 TOV per game in his first 15 this season. He's been automatic money betting the over on his turnovers since his return (and actually his points over as well).
I would entertain a BI for Siakam swap. I think Siakam and Zion could be a great small ball lineup, and he takes our defense to another level regardless of his position.
I can't see a scenario where Boston trades Jaylen Brown. He's better than BI.

There's enough there that they should be well over .500 imo, but I don't expect it.

if you have two "star players", there are very few universes where you should be losing.
If your stars are playing, you should be winning.
And we aren't. We actually kinda stink.

The regular season is all about taking 3's and layups, and no mid range shots. That's not so easy to accomplish in the playoffs, and the mid range shot is extremely important come playoff time.

The problem is Bi and Zion hardly ever play together. They've been on the same team for 4 years. They've played 93 games together.
and in your defense, they are 46-47 when the play together, although the vast majority of those games were from 3 and 4 years ago.
