The rapidly growing debt of the U.S. federal government has hit another milestone, topping more than $100,000 in debt per person.

While the U.S. population and the U.S. national debt are large numbers that are difficult to calculate, the rough debt estimate and rough population estimate end up at about $100,000 of federal debt per person in the U.S.

The U.S. Census population clock estimates the U.S. population at nearly 336 million. Meanwhile, the U.S. Treasury Department estimates the national debt is nearly $34 trillion.

“The national debt just exceeded $100,000 per citizen,” Rep. John James, R-Mich., wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “This should send a message to the White House that this reckless federal spending is at a breaking point.”

Only $80K per person if you include illegals.

Per person. It’s almost >3x more per taxpayer.

You know, that's odd that I would carry any debt, because I pay taxes, and I pay into SSI. There shouldn't be any debt associated with me at all.

The question is, if I give them $400k to pay for my family's share of the debt, will they reduce our future taxes?

of course not!

I will gladly pay my share of that debt right now in exchange for never paying any tax again.

I'd be willing to stroke a check today for my family's portion of the debt if it meant I were free from further taxation and overreach.

Continuous tax cuts that never trickle down will do that.

Yep. I swear I'd stroke a 400k check this afternoon if that were possible.

They better be including all the illegals they are giving benefits to.

Uhm, that's sort of the point. The expenditures of the US government exceed the taxes collected. The difference is made up with borrowing.

So yeah, everyone can be paying their taxes and yet we run up debt.

Be sure to thank your grandkids.

I actually thought it was more than that. Reckon they would accept pennies on the dollar and everyone chip in (even those that don't pay taxes)? Only caveat is every agency cut workforce by 50% and no more foreign aid or climate change bullshite.

Maybe that's the number I was thinking of.
