What can the Louisiana Governor do about crime in BR and NO?

Saw a Jeff Landry campaign ad tonight about how dangerous BR and NO are and as governor, he will uphold law and order. What special powers does this guy think he’ll have as governor to tell Teedy and Broome how to run their shite hole cities? Why couldn’t he do more as the Attorney General?

Call out NG.
Mobilize LSP.
Declare state of emergency.
A lot, actually

Plenty if they really mean it.

Blame it all on white people and their guns.

Well the current Governor pushed prison reform, let thousands of felons out of jail, and is pushing hard to reduce the sentences of convicted felons right now.
The current Governor let the State Police get out of control. Their scandals are a blight on the state.
If Landry undoes any of that it will be a huge help.

Should definitely happen, but do you really think he or any other governor would do this? It would be wall to wall “muh racism” sky screaming on every news station.

Do it first day.
You'd have 4 years to be able to point to the results.

Hire Giuliani as a consultant. Problem solved. Might have to hire some new police and fire some old ones who aren't doing their job effectively. NYC had lots of those before Giuliani.

Create special districts where the State has the power to set up an entirely separate criminal justice system apart from the City. State DA, judges, defense attorneys, police and prison. Focus on regionally significant locations like the Port, Super Dome, FQ. Use it to prosecute City officials.

The AG has limited power to fight crime. They’re the state’s attorney. The AG cannot intervene or investigate a case unless the local DA invites them in or the DA recuses themself from a case. (No, the AG does NOT have control or jurisdiction over DA’s.)
The governor, on the other hand….has more tools at their disposal, such as the national guard and state police, which can be brought in under executive order or a declared state of emergency.

Mississippi tried this with the hellhole that is Jackson. Limited by the Courts because certain elements didn't like being held to account.

I get the State Police angle, although the LSP would only really be good for traffic enforcement. But the NG angle is utter boilerplate foolish fantasy.
The NG is not a law enforcement arm. They are not trained in upholding the law and knowing where rights start and stop. All you would need is one Guardsman to overstep and you would have a federal lawsuit on your hands. Plus Posse comitatus issues would add to the folly of it.
The military is a blunt instrument. You do not want it unleashed in an urban area in particular.
Maybe, just maybe the governor could find money to supplement local cop salaries.

Send in state troopers. They probably have 10 sitting on I-20 between Shreveport and Ruston right now. I nominate them.

The most effective way would be to work with the legislature to withhold state money allocated to the city until it got its act together.

Landry? It's not so much what he "can" do as it is "will" he do anything substantive.
First, you have to assume that he's not jittery about being seen in public dictating to a black female.
Solving the crime situations?
Just in the realm of the rather nonviolent electoral process, we had a Secretary of State who folded his tent and discreetly withdrew from the political scene rather than placing himself in the line of fire resulting from such future optics.
In this instance it would involve eventually having to remind - again - our own recalcitrant, resistant, entitled, Sandra Wilson (Registrar) of the over 70,000 illegitimate names we found during our abortive recall project (a residual of A.C.O.R.N. when they were rolling here).
Although nothing has changed, imagine how this looks to those involved in the upcoming elections who insist our elections are above board and sacrosanct.
Who among the candidates - including Landry - is going to tell Wilson that these rolls will be cleaned even if it takes the Governor, Secretary of State and a number of State Police with yellow crime scene tape to come down here and see that it's done.
The only politician currently running who seemed to be serious about the voter rolls is Brandon Trosclair. Not nearly enough of them.
This version of gutlessness among the Repubs might one day have its own term: the Ardoin Syndrome.
Will Landry do it?
Can only go by past performance.
As when he disappeared like Mandrake the Magician and didn't reappear - like a MeerKat - until after the crisis was over with our historical monuments.
That he'll do neither with both cities, for crime or anything else other than loud statements to the media "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing," but no meaningful action.

Given the Governor’s power in this state?
He can theoretically frick with the DAs and judges in Caddo, EBR, and Orleans who are not prosecuting criminals or giving them release with little to no bail.
I don’t know about Caddo particularly but I know the Soros DA in Orleans is picking and choosing who gets charged and “accidentally” dropping the ball on filing needed motions for criminals like the juveniles in Angola.

Wouldn't this be more in the A.G.'s wheelhouse?
The Gov could raise a stink about it to try to get those POS DA's to do their job, but the local media is not going to help in any way to hold the DA's accountable.

The gov in this state is pretty dictatorial and can control where money goes, who is on boards, etc, in a way to frick with cities and parishes that the AG has no power to do.

If Caddo and EBR have a home rule charter like Orleans.....he can't really even frick with them effectively.
